  • Small dog-friendly site in a two-acre woodland and field
  • In the Peak District National Park, 15 minutes’ drive from Bakewell
  • Firepits permitted; Tissington Trail 20 minutes’ walk away
The Peak District National Park is dreamy in itself, and even dreamier is staying on a small dog-friendly site set in a two-acre woodland and field with discrete lighting around the facilities only and glades in and on the edge of the woods. Oldhams Wood in Derbyshire is a proper refuge; the pitches are out of sight of each other, so it’s very quiet and private. Well-suited to families or small groups, this site is kitted out with a toilet and washing-up area with hot and cold water. Firepits are available, so you’ll have an atmospheric setting to recount the day’s tales. What might these be? Perhaps you spent the day cycling for 13 miles down the Tissington Trail, which is 20 minutes’ walk away, or consuming ample Bakewell tarts in Bakewell, 15 minutes’ drive away. There are many more characterful Peak District spots within driving distance, of course. However, if it’s some tasty sustenance you’re looking for first, there are pubs within five minutes’ drive of the site and shops within 10 minutes’ drive of the site. Parking is provided 200 metres away, but vehicle access is possible across a field (except in poor weather) – this is for setup only to avoid any damage to the grassy access track.

What customers say

Guests consistently praise the spacious, private, and secluded pitches, often surrounded by woodland, offering a peaceful rural retreat. The friendly and helpful owner is frequently mentioned. The location provides beautiful views and is conveniently close to ancient sites like Arbor Low stone circle, as well as offering easy access to local towns. Facilities, including warm water for washing up and toilets, are appreciated. Some visitors noted minor traffic noise or difficulty finding the entrance initially, and occasional poor mobile signal. Overall, the site is highly recommended for its tranquility and privacy.

Secret non-electric grass tent pitch (woodland)

Liked Love everything about this site! Such a gorgeous, remote location with an area all to yourself. All the same benefits of wild camping with the convenience of a toilet and sink area. We stayed in the secret woodland area and could not recommend it enough for a large group, as it feels private and secluded enough.
Fire pit was a lovely touch as well, we will definitely be returning.

Disliked Nothing! It was perfect for what we needed. Only thing maybe was the sign posting to the site entrance wasn’t obvious, and I had no signal to check back for more info, but my own fault really for not checking in advance. Overall no complaints at all.

Secret non-electric grass tent pitch (woodland)

Liked It was everything we look for in a campsite and more.
We love the smaller quieter campsites and this was just absolutely idyllic.

It somehow managed to be both in the middle of nowhere but also close enough to everything still.

It was two minutes away from a well stocked petrol station and a short drive from Bakewell (yes we may have accidentally bought three tarts from the bakery, oh and fudge from the fudge shop).

Our days out walking were only ever a short drive from the campsite although there were plenty of walks even closer if we wished.

Back to the campsite. The pitches were amazing. Gave us complete privacy and space. It was beautiful to watch the sunset with the sheep and cows in the field next to us watching the swifts play. It was a haven of wildlife.

Our pitch was well sheltered by mature trees which was a blessing during windy weather, because of how we pitched the tent hardly moved because of the trees.

There wasn't light pollution so on our last night it was a beautiful clear sky and there were so many stars and I saw the ISS making its way across the sky.

We had a great time away.
Thanks

Disliked Obviously that we had to come home.
