Fancy a walk or bike ride on the Monsal Trail? Go right ahead – the popular traffic-free trail runs pretty much straight past Broadroods Farm Campsite, with direct access from the pitches. That means easy strolls/cycles to the soaring Headstone Viaduct or over to Bakewell, a couple of miles away, where you can reward your efforts with a treat from the famous pudding shop. This family-run site is part of a working farm in the Peak District National Park, so there’s plenty more lovely scenery to take in nearby too, along with attractions including the Chatsworth Estate, Haddon Hall and the ‘plague village’ of Eyam. That wonderful scenery surrounds the farm too, of course, and the flat grass pitches have plenty of space from which to soak it all up. It’s a purposely simple setup here to help guests slow down and appreciate the peace. Facilities stretch to just toilets and a dog run – nothing to distract from the fresh air, the chatter of the birds and the night-time views up into the star-filled skies. (Please note there’s no hot water on site, and it’s a good idea to bring a torch as there’s also no lighting after dark.) Barbecues are permitted here, so bring your supplies along or pick up bits in nearby Ashford in the Water – the pretty village is about 15 minutes’ walk away, and has a couple of pubs and a café as well as a well-stocked shop. A local brewery also has a shop about 10 minutes’ walk away.

Liked Great stay for a basic site. only toilets and bins on site but were very clean and tidy. The toilets were only portaloos but they were very clean and smelt good. Walking route start right from the site and the owners were very nice and accommodating by letting us stay after the check out time.

Liked Basic, ( we knew it would be) but peaceful and near the Monsal trail, so easy to get to Bakewell on foot. Also Ashford on the water was lovely village, and pub did a good breakfast, although a bit pricey. Recycling facilities were the best we'd had on our campsites this visit.

Disliked Portaloos had someone's poop visable and skids in the pan, which I found a bit amusing, but some people would've been horrified. Maybe they were due for an empty.

Disliked Map describing route to get to mansol trail from camp site wasnt clear it didnt say you couldn't ride bikes thr only suitable to walk .once on trail it was good but I struggle to get to it as described .
Toilet disposal was a hole in another field

Liked Beautiful views. Big pitches facing those views and in a single line so no one in front or behind of you. Easy access to the Monsail Trail by foot or bike. Monsail Head just up the road with a great pub and more incredible views. Bin system well set up and two lovely and clean portaloos with loo roll with a tap for fresh drinking water. We'll be making this a regular fixture from now on. No electric hook ups, but we prefer that in terms of how busy it will be.

Liked Perfect location, peaceful with beautiful views.

Disliked People who arrived much earlier in the day and didn’t set up. Went off on their day out and came back to set up very late in the dark when most of us had gone to bed. Selfish attitude but nothing to do with the camp site.

Local attractions

The Monsal Trail is a must for many visitors to the Peak District, and that’s certainly the case for guests at Broadroods Farm. The path will get you to the Headstone Viaduct with a 15-minute walk, or to Bakewell in about 45 minutes (it’s a five-minute drive if you need your puddings more urgently). Bikes can be hired from Hassop, five minutes’ drive away. For other outdoor adventures, you may like to walk in places like Lathkill Dale (10 minutes’ drive) or Dovedale (half an hour) or go climbing at Curbar Edge (15 minutes). For gentler strolls, take a wander around the grounds of Haddon Hall or the Chatsworth Estate, with its farmyard and adventure playground. Both are 15 minutes’ drive away. The lovely gardens of the Thornbridge Estate (two minutes’ drive/10 minutes’ walk) are another option, or you could dip into local history with visits to Cresbrook Mill (five minutes’ drive) and Eyam (10 minutes). Buxton (20 minutes) is also nice for a wander, or you could go for a real change of scenery and head to Sheffield (40 minutes) for galleries, museums and shops.
