General

  • Site of spectacular scenery a mile and a half from the Dove Valley
  • Pasture, woodland and wildlife ponds among the site landscape
  • Trout fishing lake, bar and restaurant

What spectacular natural surroundings are these... Strikingly scenic Rivendale Caravan & Leisure Park is only a mile and a half from the plunging limestone valley of the River Dove, and a few minutes' walk from the viewsome hikes and bike rides of the Tissington Trail.

There's easy access to nearby Alsop, Eaton and Biggin dales and fab fishing rivers nearby too – or maybe you'd prefer to get more watery among the kayaking and sailing of handsome Carsington Water...?

Rivendale's 37 acres also have variety aplenty, with a mixture of pasture, woodland and various wildlife ponds and a wide range of wildflowers and wildlife. A fly fishing lake is here too: if you've never cast off before give it a whirl as this trout lake is just the ticket for beginners with few obstacles around its banks.

Campfires are allowed in certain areas at Rivendale provided they're contained within firepits. The site amenities are in a loo and shower block with underfloor heating (swish) and a launderette.

More? There's also a bar and restaurant in a converted stone stable, open during weekends in low season to serve a selection of hot and cold meals.

Toilets and showers were very clean, water was hot. Staff very helpful. Location good to reach lots of lovely places to visit.

    Disliked:

The pitch was a bit uneven and very close to the tent next to us. The washing up sinks are a bit on the small side but lit and undercover

Nice little site with clean facilities overall Helpful reception staff 28/06/2017

  • Liked:

    - Friendly helpful staff.
    - Quite a small site so the toilet and shower facilities weren't far away from the tent pitches.
    - Little shop with a few essentials. Though £2 for paracetamol was a bit steep. Overall good though. Be good if there were some little cereal boxes or something as the nearest supermarket is in Ashbourne that we could see.
    - Nice pubs not too far away. About twenty or so minutes. Book in advance though.
    - Pool table in on site bar. Was busy though when we visited so we didnt get a chance to use it.

    Disliked:

    - Shower Curtains could do with a clean in mens showers.
    - Washing up section needs a replacement bulb in light. Could be a bit dark now nights are drawing in.
    - Plugs for straighteners and hairdryer etc would be good. There were however hairdryers you could pay for.

I can definitely recommend Rivendale, we will be back. 28/06/2017

We liked pretty much everything about Rivendale.
The facilities were great, including the Cafe, Bar and Shop. We had coffee and cakes each day at the Cafe and ate at the Bar/Restaurant on the Saturday night, the food was excellent.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, even printing us off maps of local walks when i enquired about these for my Brother who has a Caravan and likes walking.
We cycled on the Tissington trail and liked the easy access, just cross the main road under the Bridge, through the gate and up the path.

    Disliked:

The toilet/shower facilities were spotless until some of the campers had visited, they left their mark. Toilet rolls were scattered about (their own, not the large industrial type supplied) and they left a general mess with muddy foot marks everywhere.

The toilets were cleaned daily by the staff and checked regularly, i just wish some would watch and control their kids.

Location was great. Not to far from Ashbourne, Bakewell and Dovedale. Pitches were level and spacious. Shower and toilet facilities clean and accessible.

    Disliked:

Not the happiest of staff on arrival, we felt rushed. Overgrown hedges on pitches meaning no visibility beyond and made you feel enclosed in a small space. Poorly maintained seasonal pitches giving an uninviting impression of the site; overgrown, rocks and furniture everywhere. Waste point out of order on our area meaning we had to walk a distance to empty our grey water and toilet. Cafe facilities not great, could not provide a Ploughman's even though on menu, condiments bottles/jars sticky, outside bin overflowing.

  • 1 bedroom camping pod
  • Recommend to friends   Visit again
  • Liked:

Thought I'd booked a pod but on arrival we were in a medium yurt, so happy with this. Perfect for anyone who is considering camping but not ready to take the plunge with a tent. There was only me and my son so there was plenty of room. Didn't need to light the stove unfortunately because we had beautiful weather. Not sure where we would have cooked had it been raining.
Toilet facilities are good and plenty available, washing up area was a bit small but did the job, could have done with a trolley to carry it though as it was quite a way from the yurt. Overall a really good site, loads of children, never saw my son until meal time every day. Loads to explore in area. Great little sweet shop in tissington.
Also loved seeing the rabbits hopping about.

    Disliked:

Mattresses provided were not up to much, we were able to double up otherwise I'd have been blowing up the air beds too.

From the manager...

Thanks for your review, you're right - we would advise anyone reading this to bring rock pegs & a lump hammer - we are sited near the top of a hill formed from hard carboniferous limestone.

Directions

By car:
Satnav: please note that some of our guests have found they are taken into the village of Alsop. Once you are on the A515 Ashbourne to Buxton road, do not turn off until you reach the Rivendale entrance which is accessed directly from the main road.

Travelling north:
Leave the M1 at Junction 25, taking the A52 towards Derby. At the Derby ring road, follow signs for Ashbourne A52. In Ashbourne follow signs for Buxton on the A515. Do not take the Alsop-en-le-dale turn off – simply stay on the A515 for a further half mile and find Rivendale is on the right hand side.

Travelling south:
Leave the M1 at Junction 28

By taxi:
Local taxi firms include Ashbourne Taxis and ACT Taxis.

By bus:
The Bowers bus service 442 and 42 travel past Rivendale Caravan Park.

Local attractions

What lovely land this is: Rivendale Caravan & Leisure Park is well placed to take in the many highlights of the Peak District and Staffordshire, whether your tastes run to old-school hiking and climbing, or new-fangled days out at the likes of Alton Towers.

Walks are very close to base, like the mile and a half hike from the park to the Dove Valley and from there south along the river to the famed Stepping Stones or north to Hartington, or around the dales of Alsop, Eaton and Biggin. The dozens of walks and bike rides of the Tissington Trail can be accessed a couple of hundred metres away.

As well as the on-site trout fishing, anglers can cast off at prime local rivers like the Derwent in Chatsworth Park, the Dove, the Manifold and the Wye, as well as at Carsington Water where there's also kayaking, sailing and windsurfing.

Popular Peak District attractions like the Heights of Abraham falls and the Chatsworth estate are also within easy reach; if you have the kids on hol with you, they'll surely appreciate Rivendale's proximity to the likes of Alton Towers, Gullivers Kingdom and Go Ape too.

Also ask on site about local festivals and events: quite a lot run around here throughout the year.
