Set on the southern edge of the Cairngorms National Park, the pitches at Dall Cottage Camping are a short drive from three lochs with more spectacular views – including a very famous one over Loch Tummel from the Queen’s View Visitor Centre. Hikes in Tay Forest Park nearby will lead you to Iron Age hillforts with far-reaching panoramas over ancient domains.

There are no set pitches on the extensive, level camping field, so you can choose to set up at clifftop spots or camp nearer to the simple amenities on this back-to-basics site.

One last thing… This is also a wildlife haven, with part of the farm designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. If you visit in September, you may get to spot seals in the sea.

For a change of (still lovely) scenery, St Davids, the smallest city in the UK, offers up vistas of the cathedral and castle ruins.
