A campsite that could be lovely but has too many red flags.

Aug 2026

Liked We really liked the location of this campsite, with the stunning Newgale Beach just a few minutes drive away. A great place for a sunset too and decent facilities.

Disliked We had really high hopes for this site with its great reviews, location and facilities but there were some serious red flags that we unfortunately have to list: We were surprised to see the active sale and promotion of fire pits and logs, given Wales and most of the UK is in a drought with some of the hottest and driest weather on record. Whilst this may seem like a nice bonus to have a campfire, it poses a real danger at the moment and felt irresponsible with the current weather. Coupled with signs noting water preservation, we certainly questioned the safety of this site. Furthermore, there were campers with their own open fire pits with no precautions in place to protect the grass, causing huge risk of fires that could easily spread around the site and further into the surrounding acres of fields - this was all in plain site of the reception area of the campsite. Anyone witnessing the heartbreak of beautiful countryside around the UK burning into wildfires is surely aware of the risks. We feel the campsite managers should be managing this situation better and really, banning campfires during this period for the safety of everybody, as have many other campsites. We understand campsites need to make money and people want to have fun, but surely safety has to come first here. We had to stay at a different pitch on the second night, which was fine, but we found left over paraffin on the grass (as well as other litter). It was shocking to see that it had been left this way, being an obvious fire risk, but even more shocking that the site managers hadn't noticed and cleared this away safely. We arrived around at 8:30pm and the office was closed so we cleared it away our selves - we were too frustrated and disappointed by this in the morning as well. We also noticed dangerous driving on site, where a car raced across the field - no fault of the site, however, stricter enforcements could be put in place to prevent this. Again, this was around 8:30pm when the office was closed. The facilities were not bad by any means, though the back ones were not particularly clean during our stay (it was busy so we understand things can't always be super clean) but they definitely need some TLC. All in all, this could be a lovely site but we have to question the safety around allowing fires and ensuring pitches are safely cleared, it's not acceptable for us and it's certainly not acceptable for the risk it poses to the surrounding areas at this current time.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback. We’re pleased you enjoyed the location and facilities, but we’re genuinely sorry that aspects of your stay didn’t meet the high standards we work hard to maintain. Fire safety is something we take extremely seriously. As a working farm, we maintain a 1,000‑litre water bowser on standby at all times, alongside fire extinguishers at the facilities building, so that we can respond immediately to any incident. During the recent dry spell we also implemented enhanced precautions, including restricting fires to designated, raised fire pits only and carrying out regular site patrols. Open fires on the grass are not permitted, and when we identify them we intervene straight away. We appreciate your concern about wider wildfire risks across the UK, and your comments will be fed directly into our ongoing review of weather‑related safety measures. We were disappointed to hear about the paraffin and litter you found on your pitch. This is not typical of our site, and we apologise that it was missed during turnover. Our team has already reinforced pitch‑checking procedures to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Regarding driving on site, we do have clear speed limits and signage, and we intervene when unsafe behaviour is observed. We will review whether additional measures are needed during busy periods or after reception hours. Our facilities are cleaned multiple times a day, but we recognise that at peak times they can require more frequent attention. Your feedback is helpful, and we are increasing checks during high‑occupancy evenings. We’re proud to hold a 9.2 average rating across more than 120 reviews, and we’re committed to learning from every stay. Thank you again for your comments — they help us continue improving the experience for all guests.

One of our favourite campsites, always a real treat to stay here

Aug 2026

Liked One of our favourite campsites with stunning views and a real calmness, this was our fourth time visiting. It's a real treat to get a pitch with views out to Pen Y Fan and Corn Du and we were glad to see the banning of campfires this time around with the dry heat and drought over a lot of the UK. We can't wait to return again next year!

A really lovely site for exploring the Yorkshire Dales with my dog!

Jun 2026

Liked The pitches in general were great, from pitch 6 the views were amazing. The facilities were nice too, quite luxurious for a campsite! I liked that it was a small site with attention to detail, lovely farm animals and the electric charges were only what I used. It felt very safe and suited myself and my dog for our stay.

Great site in a good location for Peak District adventures.

Aug 2023

Liked Great site with nice views out in a good location for Peak District adventures. The facilities were clean and although the site was quite busy when I stayed, pitches are quite spread out to not cause any issues. Would stay again when I next visit the Peaks.
