However many times you’ve seen it in pictures or videos, Durdle Door is one of those places that you really need to see for yourself. The huge stone arch on the Dorset coast is one of the UK’s most loved sights – whether you’re admiring it from the beach or swimming/kayaking around its base you’re sure to be wowed by its sheer size. You’ll easily be able to take in those spectacular views as many times as you like when you stay at Durdle Door Holiday Park. As the name suggests, this spacious family-friendly park is just a few minutes’ walk from the arch itself – and there are lots of other great Jurassic Coast sights within easy reach too. From this location (about a mile from the village of West Lulworth) the South West Coast Path links you up with other popular spots like Lulworth Cove, Stair Hole and Man O' War beach (none more than 45 minutes’ walk away). The coast path and many of the local beaches welcome dogs – and so does this park; they’re even allowed to join you in the bar and restaurant, making this an excellent base for those of you travelling with your beloved pets. Main meals, snacks, pizzas and kids’ meals are all on the menu here, along with a good range of hot and cold drinks. Other facilities at the park include a well-stocked shop (handy for your picnic bits and barbecue supplies), a launderette and a couple of excellent play areas – one suitable for toddlers, the other with more challenging adventures for slightly older kids.

Vehicles

  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • The shower block will be closed between 11am and 12pm for cleaning daily. During this time, there are toilets available to use in the public car park. Where your touring vehicle is converted, it must have a minimum of a fixed bed/rock and roll bed and built in storage cupboards. Disposable barbecues are not allowed.

Powered grass campervan campsite (sea view)

Liked Pitch was really nice and a great view, facilities on site was really good especially the man o war pub that had a singer on the Friday night and the shop was well stocked .

Disliked Everytime we tried the shower block onsite it was shut need to give more information on times of them being open,the lighting was awful and really poor for walking from cliff top pitches up the site to restaurant, bar and shop, could do with a shower block area by the toilets where the cliff top pitches are for the people staying there.

Powered grass campervan campsite (sea view)

Liked Wonderful campsite, we booked in for the Sea View spots and while the view was incredible the ground is not level and the wind was blowing the van back and forth quite heavily (bad time of the year to go I suppose), as it would have affected sleep we asked if they would mind us moving to another spot and they were so helpful! We were moved to the Abbeyfield electric grass pitches which provide alot of protection from the weather, provide privacy with the hedges to each side and easy access to amenities and Durdle Door itself. The toilets and showers were very clean, the showers do not use that annoying push button to use that you see at most campsites and the shower block itself has a code so you feel secure using it. The restaurant and convenience store being so close is very helpful. Fantastic campsite all round!

Powered grass campervan campsite (sea view)

Liked Loved the sea view campervan pitches but they neglected to let us know that on Tuesday evenings the Military like to practise firing until as late as midnight. It really upset our rescue dog so we had to hunker down with all the windows closed until it stopped thankfully at around 9pm. If we had known we would have gone somewhere else that night.

Disliked A warning on their website regarding firing training times

Liked This site was beautifully maintained, super clean toilet/shower block. Lovely friendly staff. Right next to the coastal path to walks and beaches.

Disliked To be honest where we stayed for motor homes was surrounded by trees so pitches could be shady. Other than that the pitch sizes were great and very private

Liked Location to Durdledoor the site was well presented as well

Disliked Our pitch location could have been better. A group of 4 chaps with motorbikes in the Yurt beside us were very loud on their arrival and during their stay. I appreciate not much could be done about this but it did have an impact on our start.

Rookery primitive grass tent campsite

Liked Out of season so nice and quiet. Plenty of room in restaurant area for dogs.

Disliked Dimming the big free standing lights in the wood area for tents after midnight. They still give out a lot of light.

Liked Pleasant enough stay , nice shop on site somewhere to drink and eat food not the best but ok quiet at night but very busy in day because of were you are toilets and showers average expensive for what it is

Liked Well planned site offering a good range of facilities. Great location for walking directly to the beach to explore further

Disliked It took a long time for the hot water to come through in the showers. It was eventually hit enough but it seemed a waste of good water.

You can hire canoes or join guided trips from Lulworth Cove (five minutes’ drive/half an hour’s walk) – there are also paddleboard outings and RIB rides to try out here. Rather stick to dry land? There are plenty of options for walks around here – popular routes take you from the park along the South West Coast Path to Fossil Forest (a favourite fossil-hunting spot), to the Scratchy Bottom cliffs or all the way to Ringstead Bay on a seven-mile hilly coastal trail. Look out for wildlife as you wander – especially the 32 species of butterfly that live around here. For family days out, take a look at the likes of Monkey World (15 minutes’ drive), The Tank Museum (15 minutes) and the steam-driven Swanage Railway (35 minutes). Corfe Castle (25 minutes) and Abbotsbury’s Swannery and Subtropical Gardens (45 minutes) might also be on your radar – or maybe the sandy beach in Weymouth (half an hour)?
