  • Family-friendly Dorset park five minutes' walk from Durdle Door
  • Lulworth Cove half an hour's walk; 15 minutes' drive to Monkey World
  • Bar-restaurant and adventure play areas on site; dogs welcome
However many times you’ve seen it in pictures or videos, Durdle Door is one of those places that you really need to see for yourself. The huge stone arch on the Dorset coast is one of the UK’s most loved sights – whether you’re admiring it from the beach or swimming/kayaking around its base you’re sure to be wowed by its sheer size. You’ll easily be able to take in those spectacular views as many times as you like when you stay at Durdle Door Holiday Park. As the name suggests, this spacious family-friendly park is just a few minutes’ walk from the arch itself – and there are lots of other great Jurassic Coast sights within easy reach too. From this location (about a mile from the village of West Lulworth) the South West Coast Path links you up with other popular spots like Lulworth Cove, Stair Hole and Man O' War beach (none more than 45 minutes’ walk away). The coast path and many of the local beaches welcome dogs – and so does this park; they’re even allowed to join you in the bar and restaurant, making this an excellent base for those of you travelling with your beloved pets. Main meals, snacks, pizzas and kids’ meals are all on the menu here, along with a good range of hot and cold drinks. Other facilities at the park include a well-stocked shop (handy for your picnic bits and barbecue supplies), a launderette and a couple of excellent play areas – one suitable for toddlers, the other with more challenging adventures for slightly older kids.

What customers say

Great spot near Durdle Door & coastal walks. Friendly staff & clean, big pitches get a thumbs up. Some feedback on old loos, iffy showers, and road/people noise, esp. for sea views. A bit pricey for some.

Abbeyfield electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Location to Durdledoor the site was well presented as well

Disliked Our pitch location could have been better. A group of 4 chaps with motorbikes in the Yurt beside us were very loud on their arrival and during their stay. I appreciate not much could be done about this but it did have an impact on our start.

Rookery non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Out of season so nice and quiet. Plenty of room in restaurant area for dogs.

Disliked Dimming the big free standing lights in the wood area for tents after midnight. They still give out a lot of light.

Abbeyfield electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Well planned site offering a good range of facilities. Great location for walking directly to the beach to explore further

Disliked It took a long time for the hot water to come through in the showers. It was eventually hit enough but it seemed a waste of good water.

Abbeyfield electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Great location, private pitch, well stocked shop, helpful staff. Very quiet, even next to road.

Disliked Tired, very cold, unwelcome toilet block. Leaking, filthy chemical toilet emptying area. Deep stone paths mean you can't wheel toilet or water containers to block.

Electric grass campervan pitch (sea view)

Liked It was definitely all about the stunning front row views.
We pitched furthest away which was the best spot for being away enough from the car park, and also seemed the flattest.
You do definitely need to level the van, but there were blocks left near the pitches we used.
(Also worth noting that you are right on the cliff face, so it will get windy!)
The toilet block was the public one which hundreds of visitors use, so despite the cleaners best efforts, they were disgusting!
We were only here 1 night so didn’t venture to the main toilets/showers so can’t comment on those- other than they were a long way away.

The onsite bar/restaurant was “okay” and the little shop too for essentials.

Great location for walking, especially over to Lulworth cove (nice selection of pubs, little shops etc) or walking down the other way to Durdle Door.

Disliked The toilets for the camper vans were just the public ones. Unfortunately hundreds of people use these, and it’s amazing how dirty/disrespectful some people are with the state they left some of the cubicles (I felt sorry for the cleaners)
I think a few separate portaloos for people who have paid for a campervan pitch could be considered by the holiday park maybe as the main toilet block is a treck away.

Abbeyfield electric grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Loved the location , easy access to the beaches and coves. The site was very clean the toilets, showers and washing up room seemed to be checked regularly.
Friendly staff at reception.

Disliked Was a little disappointed with the choice of food in the restaurant and felt it was a little over priced for the quality. My friend wasn’t given a choice of chips on ordering and when asked if she could have fries instead she was told there wasn’t any cooked, so didn’t eat all the meal.

Liked Great location for Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door with access to many walks from the site. On site bar was very good with excellent food and there’s also a well stocked convenience store.

Disliked Facilities in the shower/toilet block were very dated and tired, could’ve been cleaner too

Local attractions

Once you’ve marvelled at Durdle Door from the beach, how about seeing it close up? You can hire canoes or join guided trips from Lulworth Cove (five minutes’ drive/half an hour’s walk) – there are also paddleboard outings and RIB rides to try out here. Rather stick to dry land? There are plenty of options for walks around here – popular routes take you from the park along the South West Coast Path to Fossil Forest (a favourite fossil-hunting spot), to the Scratchy Bottom cliffs or all the way to Ringstead Bay on a seven-mile hilly coastal trail. Look out for wildlife as you wander – especially the 32 species of butterfly that live around here. For family days out, take a look at the likes of Monkey World (15 minutes’ drive), The Tank Museum (15 minutes) and the steam-driven Swanage Railway (35 minutes). Corfe Castle (25 minutes) and Abbotsbury’s Swannery and Subtropical Gardens (45 minutes) might also be on your radar – or maybe the sandy beach in Weymouth (half an hour)?
