  • Quiet family-run Dorset park 20 minutes’ walk from Lyme Regis
  • Charmouth 10 minutes’ drive; Beer 20 minutes; Chesil Beach 50 minutes
  • On-site shop; pop-up dining in summer; pub five minutes’ walk
Looking for a non-party place? Set in peaceful countryside on the county lines between Devon and Dorset, Hook Farm Campsite in Uplyme should be your first pick. This family-run holiday park is a quiet place designed for small family groups, couples and solo travellers only. Not only that, but it's in pole position for exploring the Jurassic Coast and the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ walk away). Once you’ve settled in, owners John and Jacky and their close-knit team at reception are happy to advise on sightseeing and local walks, or provide information on local events and attractions. The adjacent on-site shop is stocked with camping essentials, basic foods and barbecue bits, as well as sweets and snacks to keep the kids going. The staples store in Uplyme, 10 minutes’ walk away, should have anything you can’t find in the site shop, and there’s also a pub five minutes' walk away serving home-cooked food and real ales. For food fanatics, pop-up food trucks stop by Hook Farm Campsite in high season, and it’s also close to River Cottage (35 minutes’ drive, famed as the restaurant of TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall), as well as an assortment of pubs and restaurants showcasing local food and drinks. The campsite is situated within a dark-skies area, so you might get lucky weatherwise and observe star-studded night skies from the comfort of your pitch.

Powered grass campervan campsite (medium)

Liked So spotlessly clean. I usually get the ick when I use campsite loos and showers, but I must say they were amazingly clean!!!
Great pitch and beautiful scenery. The walk along the river in to Lyme is beautiful, so much so that instead of getting an uber we walked there and back with our two dogs both days. Would definiteley stay again.

Disliked I dislike myself for not reading in the info that you need a much longer electric socket than we had from our campervan to hook up, so we couldnt position properly to use our awning. Our fault though.

So pleased that you and your dogs had a lovely stay and enjoyed the walk to Lyme Regis.

We hope you can come and stay again soon.

Liked Location was nice

Disliked We had a really disappointing experience at Hook farm campsite. We booked a grass electric pitch through Pitchup, making sure to follow the information provided there about what type of van was allowed. When we arrived, we were told our van didn’t meet their requirements even though on Pitchup there was nothing to say this. The most annoying part is they checked us is, showed us to our pitch, watched us park and saw fully what my van was and they waiting until after we were set up to come back and tell us we had to leave in the morning.

What made it worse was that the staff looked at the Pitchup listing in front of us to prove us wrong and ended up having to agree the information was unclear or incorrect. Despite acknowledging that, they still asked us to leave and didn’t offer any alternative solution, flexibility, or help to resolve the situation. After a long journey, being turned away like that was incredibly frustrating and stressful.

After writing a review on google the owner responded still stating that pitch up have their websites t&c’s linked which after checking again, they do not.

From the manager: Thank you for the review. Our team did apologise and explained why.

Our insurance does not cover us for guests sleeping in vans and you had booked for a campervan. We have two new members of staff who did not realise until after pitching that you were sleeping in a van and had not brought a campervan.

They did then speak to you and explained that you were welcome to stay the night but would need to leave in the morning.

We refunded you for the remainder two nights and suggested another park. We have also asked pitch up to make it clearer.

Again sorry for any inconvenience.

Powered grass RV campsite (large)

Liked This is a lovely peaceful campsite - facilities are immaculate; pitches are spacious and we could not fault a thing.
We originally booked for 3 nights but ended up staying an extra night. We were lucky with the weather and enjoyed the glorious river walk into Lyme Regis.
The Indian takeaway van was a bonus and was very good.
We particularly enjoyed the field right next to the campsite where the dogs were able to roam free and have a good run.
Will be back. Truly lovely campsite.
Ignore any negative comments from other reviews - there’s nothing to fault.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (large, no awning)

Liked Super clean toilets and showers. Friendly and helpful staff. Quiet site (April) and a dog walk directly off the site into a field and beyond. Lovely riverside walk to Lyme Regis and busses run from just down from the bottom of the short hill. 20p for a 4 minute shower, which is plenty long enough and the water was hot. Would be happy to return.

Disliked The internet was slow causing buffering and disconnection. Occasionally it was good, but never fast. Couldn't get a TV signal either so we listened to a lot of radio. At £4.20 per night for a dog I'd say that was a bit steep as they don't use any facilities except for the poo bin.

Powered cement/asphalt and grass RV campsite (large, no awning)

Liked Well spaced out pitches with a large grass area to use. Sunny , peaceful site with lots of bird song. Public footpath from the site. 10 mins walk to the pub. 1 1/2 mile walk along a good path by the river into Lyme Regis and coast path. Micro brewery at the end of the path. Loved it!
Really friendly staff. Pop up Indian on the Saturday night, perfect after a long walk.
Clean spacious facilities.

Disliked Maybe an 11 o’clock check out would be better

Local attractions

Dedicated star-gazers can stroll up to Trinity Hill Nature Reserve (45 minutes’ walk), awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status thanks to its lack of light pollution. Hook Farm is also a handy base camp for walkers in the East Devon Natural Landscape (direct from site), and has ready access to the South West Coast Path (half an hour), while following the East Devon Way (five minutes) gives you a handy riverside shortcut down to the sea. Historic Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive) is known for the fossils and ammonites found on its sands, and is gateway to the dramatic seascapes of the Jurassic Coast. You can hunt for more ancient treasures on the beach at Charmouth (10 minutes), and wander along the pebble spit at Chesil Beach (50 minutes). The lively (and lovely) seaside town of Beer (20 minutes) has a photogenic fishing harbour and several contemporary art galleries to mooch around, and if the kids are with you, you’ll probably end up at The Donkey Sanctuary (also 20 minutes), where you can feed and cuddle rescue donkeys.
