  • Quiet family-run Dorset park 20 minutes’ walk from Lyme Regis
  • Charmouth 10 minutes’ drive; Beer 20 minutes; Chesil Beach 50 minutes
  • On-site shop; pop-up dining in summer; pub five minutes’ walk
Looking for a non-party place? Set in peaceful countryside on the county lines between Devon and Dorset, Hook Farm Campsite in Uplyme should be your first pick. This family-run holiday park is a quiet place designed for small family groups, couples and solo travellers only. Not only that, but it's in pole position for exploring the Jurassic Coast and the pretty seaside town of Lyme Regis (20 minutes’ walk away). Once you’ve settled in, owners John and Jacky and their close-knit team at reception are happy to advise on sightseeing and local walks, or provide information on local events and attractions. The adjacent on-site shop is stocked with camping essentials, basic foods and barbecue bits, as well as sweets and snacks to keep the kids going. The staples store in Uplyme, 10 minutes’ walk away, should have anything you can’t find in the site shop, and there’s also a pub five minutes' walk away serving home-cooked food and real ales. For food fanatics, pop-up food trucks stop by Hook Farm Campsite in high season, and it’s also close to River Cottage (35 minutes’ drive, famed as the restaurant of TV chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall), as well as an assortment of pubs and restaurants showcasing local food and drinks. The campsite is situated within a dark-skies area, so you might get lucky weatherwise and observe star-studded night skies from the comfort of your pitch.

What customers say

Lovely spot, dead peaceful, and the facilities are class, esp. the loos and showers. Staff are gas and proper helpful. The walk to Lyme Regis is beautiful. Some moan about the 20p for a shower and the wifi playing up now and then. Loads of people say they'd come back, and no wonder.

Non-electric grass tent pitch (large)

Liked Hook Farm was brilliant from start to finish. The site is beautifully kept and pitches are well spaced. The staff greeted us with big cheery smilies and from the off made us feel very welcome. Check in was swift and they provided all the information we needed.
We were escorted to our pitch and shown the toilets/showers and told a bit more about the site. As with the rest of the site, the toilets, showers and washing up area was immaculate. The shop was well stocked and it was a treat to have a pizza on Friday night! High speed WiFi was also available throughout the site.
I chose Hook Farm as it is advertised as a ‘quieter’ site (I was traveling with just my 8 year old, who was a first time camper) and it was exactly that. Perfect to relax and enjoy the scenery and close enough to Lyme Regis to walk to (highly recommend the river walk).
The staff were friendly and engaging throughout and we had a brilliant time.
We’re already looking to book next year!

Liked No problem changing pitch as my hook up was not long enough as the campsite was quiet and we were only there for one night. James the warden was very helpful with a small electrical problem.

Liked The site is really clean and well maintained. Lovely shower blocks and views of the surrounding countryside. It’s quiet and laid out so you have your own space.

Disliked The ground was very hard with loads of rocks which made placing tent pegs very difficult. You definitely need hard ground pegs and a strong mallet!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the great review we hope you can come and stay again. We also recommend rock tent pegs as we are on the Jurassic Coast.

Liked We loved our pitch it was quite private with a small hedge. The shower block was lovely and clean and staff were very helpful. The popup curry truck on Saturday was brilliant 🤩. The Talbot Arms fish & chips takeaway on Friday night was just perfect way to relax with a drink. The River walk into Lyme Regis was good making this site a perfect gem. We will be back 😁

Local attractions

Dedicated star-gazers can stroll up to Trinity Hill Nature Reserve (45 minutes’ walk), awarded Dark Sky Discovery Site status thanks to its lack of light pollution. Hook Farm is also a handy base camp for walkers in the East Devon Natural Landscape (direct from site), and has ready access to the South West Coast Path (half an hour), while following the East Devon Way (five minutes) gives you a handy riverside shortcut down to the sea. Historic Lyme Regis (five minutes’ drive) is known for the fossils and ammonites found on its sands, and is gateway to the dramatic seascapes of the Jurassic Coast. You can hunt for more ancient treasures on the beach at Charmouth (10 minutes), and wander along the pebble spit at Chesil Beach (50 minutes). The lively (and lovely) seaside town of Beer (20 minutes) has a photogenic fishing harbour and several contemporary art galleries to mooch around, and if the kids are with you, you’ll probably end up at The Donkey Sanctuary (also 20 minutes), where you can feed and cuddle rescue donkeys.
