Coiners Camp

General

  • Family-friendly site in scenic countryside surroundings
  • Easy access to fields – barbecues and campfires encouraged
  • Traditional camping experience on the fringes of Hebden Bridge

Mad about walking? Then you’d be silly to miss out on Aarons Campsite – the Cragg Vale location, between Halifax and Hebden Bridge, is right in the heart of the lush green Pennines, where heading out for a wander can turn into a full-blown hike that ranks up there with the best of them.

The secluded family-friendly site, in an area of moors and fields, is within easy reach of local attractions such as the popular tourist area Hebden Bridge. The surrounding hills and valleys (including Stoodley Pike) have been popular with trekking types for yonks too, whether for strolling along a riverside path, or for following stone causeways marking old packhorse routes; there's great dog walking terrain in all directions.

It’s all about nicely simple stays here, but just have a chat with the staff and they’ll provide you with portable firepits and wood for your campfire (for a small extra charge) – they also have a larger fixed campfire available for group hire. The easily accessible fields are flat and drained.

If you’re out of nosh or fancy leaving the cooking to someone else one evening, shops and takeaways are within a mile and a half of the site, as well as two village pubs. But if you’re out in the car on a food mission, be sure to grab some for the barbecue and invite some of your newfound friends over for a toasty evening meal.

A great simple campsite with beautiful views.

Malcolm was there to meet us on arrival and check us in. He even towed us out the mud when the van got stuck and was very polite and helpful.
Aaron the owner came round on several occasions asking if everything was OK, filling up the porta loos with toilet roll and bringing round fire pits, logs, kindle and firelighters for £12.50. This lasted us 2 nights so was great value for money.

There were 2 porta loos in our feild and they were kept clean throughout our 2 night stay and emptied every morning.
The views from the field were beautiful with a lovely sunset to watch every evening.

There is a little shop on site selling cold drinks, chocolate and crisps if you need a little snack and a washing up area (cold water only) and drinking water tap near the farmhouse.
Honestly, nothing was too much to ask from the staff. They were all lovely and happy to have a chat with you.

A short drive and you are in hebden Bridge, which has lots of cafés, pubs and nice walks along the canal.
All in all we had a great stay at Aaron's campsite and would highly recommend.

There’s no hot water for washing hands and pots and of course, no showers. This is ok for a night but would be difficult to stay for longer which is a shame. But not the end of the world. Would return.

Loved the surrounding areas. I had children aged from 5 to 16 stayed with friends and pets. Loved the back to basic kids got to enjoy some quality out door fun without being surrounded with luxuries. We took plenty of games so they had alot to do. And went on some lovely walks with the dog and kids. The pitch field is nice and flat. Washing up water and drinking water is available. No showers which we knew about before we arrived so perfectly fine for a short stay as we just boiled water and washed.

Wood and firepits are available to hire which came in handy with the cold nights

Local attractions

Cragg Vale, a 10-minute drive away, is a top spot to delve into local history and is crammed with independent shops for souvenirs and wallet emptying, from antiques and secondhand books to handmade quality crafts.

There's more shopping, along with Victorian streets and a hillside setting at Hebden Bridge (20 minutes), frequently hailed as one of the best market towns in the UK and Europe. Check out the town events when you're here too, as Hebden Bridge is home to an acclaimed arts festival and the famed Handmade Parade.

Hikers can ramble around all sorts of walking havens from here, with the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland both within an hour's drive for weeks' worth of contented tramping about. Or have a highly energetic time closer to home with a clamber up to Stoodley Pike, commemorating the Battle of Waterloo. There are splendid views of green countryside from here, so bring your camera.

Brontë buffs might also want to check out the ruined farmhouse Top Withens (45 minutes), said to have been the inspiration for the Earnshaw home in Wuthering Heights. The surrounding moors are sure to have you searching for the nearest bookshop, or perhaps bawling out a certain Kate Bush song from the 70s...
