Mad about walking? Then you’d be silly to miss out on Aarons Campsite – the Cragg Vale location, between Halifax and Hebden Bridge, is right in the heart of the lush green Pennines, where heading out for a wander can turn into a full-blown hike that ranks up there with the best of them. The secluded family-friendly site, in an area of moors and fields, is within easy reach of local attractions such as the popular tourist town of Hebden Bridge. The surrounding hills and valleys (including Stoodley Pike) have been popular with trekking types for yonks too, whether for strolling along a riverside path, or for following stone causeways marking old packhorse routes. There's great dog-walking terrain in all directions too. It’s all about the relaxing back to basics camping experience here, but just have a chat with the staff and they’ll provide you with portable firepits and wood for your campfire (for a small extra charge) – they also have a larger fixed campfire available for group hire. The easily accessible fields are flat and drained. If you’re out of nosh or fancy leaving the cooking to someone else one evening, the site has a food shack and bar on site open on Fridays and Saturdays, where you can tuck into bacon butties and local brewed ales. But if you’re out in the car on a food mission, be sure to grab some bits for the barbecue and invite some of your newfound friends over for a evening meal.

喜欢 The best hidden gem of a campsite. Attended the mid summer festival.
The best vibe. All staff were amazing.
Toilets kept clean. Cafe food was good.
Site kept clean & tidy.

喜欢 Freedom to park campervan in any convenient space in level, sheltered grass field or among trees. Portable toilets were available, and in good condition. Friendly encounters with staff and a few others on site.

喜欢 If you like it rough and ready, this is for you.

不喜欢 I dont mind rough and ready but all the facilities which isn't a lot were pretty temporary or built in 5 seconds.
It was pretty awful weather for June so this may grump up my view.

喜欢 Always friendly hosts/proprieters. Feel looked after.

不喜欢 Toilets are very basic portaloos and no drinking water. Grear for a basic 1 night stay on my way to somewhere but not sure I would settle down for more than one evening.

不喜欢 No running water main toilets all broke and unclean had to use portaloo which was serving a lot of campers and was not clean loud campers till 2am 🫠

不喜欢 The noise from the campers next to me.
The dog that ran over to my dog and snapped at him, lucky it didn't get a boot to the face.
The fact they wheeled some big speakers into the bar area.
The rubbish everywhere.

喜欢 Everything was really impressive, a really good set up. Perfect for first time campers with a young family and perfect for campers wanting to have a drink and meet some people. Great community camp site and fantastic atmosphere and customer service.

Cragg Vale, a 10-minute drive away, is a top spot to delve into local history and is crammed with independent shops for souvenirs and wallet emptying, from antiques and secondhand books to handmade quality crafts. There's more shopping, along with Victorian streets and a hillside setting, at Hebden Bridge (20 minutes' drive), frequently hailed as one of the best market towns in the UK and Europe. Check out the town events when you're here too, as Hebden Bridge is home to an acclaimed arts festival and the famed Handmade Parade. Hikers can ramble around all sorts of walking havens from here, with the Yorkshire Dales and the Forest of Bowland both within an hour's drive for weeks' worth of contented tramping about. Or have a highly energetic time closer to home with a clamber up to Stoodley Pike, commemorating the Battle of Waterloo. There are splendid views of green countryside from here, so bring your camera. Brontë buffs might also want to check out the ruined farmhouse Top Withens (45 minutes), said to have been the inspiration for the Earnshaw home in Wuthering Heights. The surrounding moors are sure to have you searching for the nearest bookshop, or perhaps bawling out a certain Kate Bush song from the 70s…
