  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Liked: What a lovely site! Wide open spaces and big skies. The facilities were fun, quirky, immaculately clean! The goats and birds were a delight too.
We hope to return later in the season to sample the pizza oven 😋

10-amp powered grass campsite

Liked: The lovely relaxed feel and friendliness of the site, with the lovely friendly goats. Take away food

Disliked: Although there have been improvements since last year. Showers very compact and for the site not sufficient for the amount of campers, toilets okay, but again not enough for the site, thankfully we were placed with family with caravan with facilities.

From the manager: So you were here on our bank holiday, so fully booked, and never once did you see a queue for the toilets, this only happens at the festival.

And showers maybe a 5 mins wait max, during the peak hour of the day. And the only reason for this is our showers are free so people can take their time. A quick resolve would be to go like most sites and charge, however we believe our customers would prefer a short wait and have a leisurely HOT shower.

Unfortunately we can’t please everyone, but we’re happy with the vast majority. May I suggest another site if you keep visiting to then complain?

Stayed here a few times. It's always a nice place to stay.

6-amp powered grass campsite

Liked: Great site, easy to find, lovely pitches. The shop was really well stocked at reasonable prices, my daughter loved the animals which kept her entertained for hours. The facilities were a little rough and ready but at this price point I was never expecting luxury. Loved the possibility of having decent food available on site if I couldn't be bothered to cook. Also pubs in easy walking distance just down the canal path.

Disliked: Drainage in the showers could be better, and pitches were a little difficult to differentiate between amp types, in the end I just plugged in to an available connection.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: A lovely campsite, great facilities, flat pitches, lovely hot showers and friendly staff. The onsite pygmy goats and playground are great for kids though.
The only downside is that it's right next to a railway line so you need to be able to sleep through trains. Its a lovely site though and I'd recommend it.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked: Large site. Nice shop, bar and take away food (we didn’t try it but it was popular). The goats were really cute. Local village was lovely.

Disliked: Not many toilets for the number of people on the site. Take loo roll as it had run out. Site could really do with bigger shower and toilet facilities.

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
