  • Family-run dog-friendly farm site in Cropredy village
  • A 20-minute drive to British Motor Museum; 40 mins to Blenheim Palace
  • Wood-fired pizzas on busy weekends; a short walk to pubs and cafés
Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

What customers say

Grand spot for families! Plenty of room, spick-and-span facilities, and a lovely welcome. Kids loved the animals (goats a hit!), playground, and bouncy castles. Food and shop on-site are a bonus. A bit of train noise and a few bits needing a spruce up, but overall, great value for a chill break. Loads are planning a return!

Liked Loved so much about this site… the kids loved going to see the animals and enjoyed time on the bouncy castle. The surrounding village was so lovely.
The food onsite was of great quality and very reasonably priced and the shop was well stocked with essentials and extras.
So many great points

Disliked The only thing I didn’t like was the noise of the railway but this is not something that the site can control. And in actual fact the trains seem to run far less on Sundays so was a lot quieter earlier in the day. But to be honest I expect this is something you would get used to if you were there for longer than a night or two

Liked Great facilities, shower and toilets were perfect! Just a quick one night stop for us on the way to somewhere but could easily stay and make use of the bar/breakfast etc. They found us somewhere quiet for our one night, but seemed good vibes and child friendly if you have them 👍 booked last minute and arrived 830pm with no issues and someone around to meet us in the shop

Liked The food was very good and reasonably priced but only available on Wednesday and Thursday .
We also liked the variety of animals on site.

Disliked The first issue — which I feel is significantly downplayed on the website — is the proximity to the train line and the impact that this has on your holiday. Trains pass by every 15–20 minutes during the day, and they continue through the night, until 1am and start again at 4am. They are very loud and pass by the camp at speed. Each train also sounds its horn as it passes, which made it even more difficult to get any rest even with ear plugs. Despite briefly mentioning that you “may hear the nearby train” which they claim adds “excitement” to the holiday, on their website, I don’t feel that this level of disruption is communicated clearly enough prior to booking, and had we known, we would not have stayed.

We also had concerns around staff professionalism. There was repeated inappropriate behaviour from one member of staff at the bar that made us uncomfortable. Following this, we overheard staff discussing our relationship status as we walked past as they all sat in a large group drinking by the bar — this felt very invasive and unprofessional.

There was also a serious safety concern during our stay when shooting occurred in the field directly adjacent to the campsite. The gunshots were very close to us and we had no prior warning of this. We raised this with staff who couldn’t have cared less. He just said that nothing could be done and that the police would not do anything as “this is the countryside”. Didn’t even come to the pitch to see what was happening. Five minutes later, we saw a police car driving around the camp site asking campers for information about what had happened. The police informed us that we should have been given warning and that they shouldn’t have been shooting so closely to us. When we expressed our disappointment to staff that we were not given warning of the shooting in advance, we were simply told “that’s not a thing”. No apology was given or support for our dog who was shaking and sick with fear. Or to my family who were forced to sit in a tent while people were not following gun safety rules in extremely close proximity to us.

Hygiene and facilities were another low point. The toilets were in poor condition and appeared to be only quickly checked (not cleaned properly) in the morning which often resulted in there being no soap or toilet paper throughout the day. At one point, what appeared to be faeces had been smeared on the wooden panel forming the toilet wall and it remained uncleaned for a considerable time. The toilet buildings were obviously hand made by an unqualified carpenter and the toilet doors were so far from the floor that children repeatedly crawled under the door while my mum and partner tried to use the toilet.

When we read reviews left by other disappointed customers, we were shocked to see how the site handles customer feedback and so we do not require a response as we won’t be staying again anyway. We are simply leaving this feedback to help others make an informed decision.

From the manager: Luckily customers have enough sense to realise a ridiculous review from one customer vs countless positives is not a true representation of this site.

Yes there was shooting in the neighbouring field, I had already been out and checked it was nothing on our site. However I do not have control of other fields, and occasional lamping in a field in the countryside is tolerated. If the occurrence happened regularly I could then build a case of noise pollution. However once every couple of years doesn’t classify this.

The fact you say the police turned up is complete fabrication. And they advised I should have given warning for a neighbour shooting is just delusional. You don’t need to give warning to any person shooting on private land, so how would anyone be able to give prior warning. Your phone call to me was ludicrous and no matter how I tried to explain there is nothing I can do, and apologise for a noise that is out of my control you were still accusing me of being responsible.

I accept your dog was upset by the noise, but surely you understand that there was nothing I could do. The fact you then fabricated a crazy review to try harm my business over an absurd reasoning is quite disturbing.

My lucky 🍀 find 💚

Liked Was a beautiful place, the environment had a relaxed and friendly feel, animals to see, clean facility’s hot showers and running water. Great location near the canal and river and local supermarket nearby if the in house shop doesn’t have what you may need. the hosts were extremely friendly and helpful. Felt extremely safe during my stay. I met with some of the locals who also spoke very highly of the place and adore visiting to see the animals, I Would highly recommend this place for everyone and I will definitely be retuning. A little hidden gem 💎 and great value for money.

Disliked Nothing I disliked absolutely nothing.

Liked Staff were friendly, loved the goats and birds. Pitches are a decent size. Love the added additions of bouncy castles and play equipment for the children.

Disliked In Both sets of toilets only one hand soap dispenser actually had soap in, and sanitary bins were full and the cold tap on one basin is broken (bottom of the field). The wooden boat that my son loved could do with a new “wheel” and the reminiscence of a sign taken down which is attached to the boat. Bit disappointing that the cafe wasn’t open, I couldn’t find anywhere that states this when booking originally. Couldn’t seem to get onto the WiFi (said we needed to be closer when putting the password in so gave up)

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
