Fancy a farm stay, but not so keen on the idea of navigating little country lanes? Set off to Oxfordshire and The Old Dairy Farm Caravan and Camping: getting here involves a mere 10-minute detour from the M40 at Banbury. That location makes this a most handy spot for motorway stopovers, but there’s plenty around to please those who choose to stay longer too. However long you stay at this family-run farm, you’ll not want to miss out on meeting the pygmy goats and free-range chickens and peering into the aviary; once the kids have done that, send them off for a proper run about on the large recreational field to tire them out before bedtime. Handy too are the smart and well-maintained facilities, including a toilet block, showers, a washing-up area, water supply and Elsan point. The wood-fired pizza oven gets going on busy weekends (and it’s also available for private hire if you’re having a gathering). Don’t worry if there’s no pizza action while you’re here: it’ll take just a few minutes to walk to Cropredy’s pubs, cafés and shop (or its play park). It’s also possible to walk to the Oxford Canal and River Cherwell for waterside wanders, and a short drive will get you out into the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty for more walks, plus golf courses, fishing lakes and National Trust estates. In the main this is a peaceful site, but it's worth noting that a rail line passes fairly close by so you may hear a bit of noise from the pitches (or even spot trains – much to the delight of young rail enthusiasts).

Everything you need is there, toilets, showers are well-kept, service 5/5, the terrain is flat...
Price for a tent without hookups £20, great.
Attractions for children, that's the most important thing... you have a moment to breathe. A small zoo - a great thing for children.

Liked: What a fabulous site, great pitch had electric, water and grey waste on pitch. Our daughter and grandchildren joined us in their camper van, we asked to be pitched together and we were. Fabulous facilities, used the kitchen first night, we had beef burger and chicken burgers and chips, all cooked to order and very tasty too. Great little park for the children and they loved petting and feeding the goats. Shop for essentials including a bar. Great shower block, didn’t use the toilets (as have own on board MH) but they looked clean and tidy. Looking forward to returning in the summer holidays, with some more family, as it’s great for bigger groups. Stayed an extra two hours on day of leaving, as weather so lovely and for only an extra £5, might stay till 3pm next time (£10 extra) well worth every penny. Many thanks 🙏

Liked: friendly greeting at this well kept site, we were given a nice grass pitch with electric , The on site shop stocks a few basics , pub and food were available when we visited on a busy bank holiday weekend. buildings have a nice rustic look. short canal or road walk to village. very good for kids and familys

Disliked: not a dislike but could do with more loos and showers as its a big site and was busy

Local attractions

Coming to the Cotswolds for a bit of fresh air and gentle activity? Set forth for fishing at Clattercote Reservoir, or tee off at Cherwell Edge Golf Course; both are about 10 minutes away by car. Country walking routes are plentiful too, of course, as are fine buildings to mooch around. Blenheim Palace (40 minutes’ drive) is perhaps the best known of all the Oxfordshire stately homes (and with good reason, for ’tis fab) but it’s worth taking a look at some others too, including Farnborough Hall (10 minutes), Sulgrave Manor (20 minutes) and Upton House and Gardens (20 minutes). For a break from the classic Cotswolds activities, head out to meet the big birds of Fir Tree Falconry (15 minutes) or sigh over all the shiny machines at the British Motor Museum (20 minutes). And if you’re in need of a tipple or two to accompany your barbecue back at base, there are some excellent local ones to be acquired at Hook Norton Brewery (25 minutes) and the Cotswolds Distillery (half an hour).
