Local attractions

Just 30 minutes from Pensacola with easy access to Interstate 10, you can enjoy all the attractions of the big city from a rustic setting. Pensacola Beach is just 35 minutes away on the Santa Rosa barrier island. There is a $1 toll to cross to the barrier island, but no charge leaving. This two block wide island has the gulf on one side, with surf and shells. The other side faces Santa Rosa Bay, with calm, shallow water, and a long dock. The Island is lined with restaurants, souvenir shops and attractions. On the west edge of Pensacola is the Naval Air Station museum. The museum is on a military base where you must show ID to enter. Admission is free and the buildings are huge. There is a complete history of flight inside from WWI to the lunar module. There are videos, displays, and a few rides that do require admission fees. Definitely an all day trip. The small town of Milton, east of Pelican Park, has a number of very nice restaurants and local shopping. There are a few parks, and boat launches that are free of charge. While we are not on the water, the Black Water River has a boat launch less than six miles from the park.
