  • Peaceful, green and leafy park a short drive from Richmond city
  • Next to a huge reservoir and park with boating and fishing
  • Shop, miniature golf and outdoor pool surrounded by sun loungers
A peaceful, rural and green park, with loads of space, trees and plants, as well as excellently-maintained grounds: sound just splendid? Add in plenty to do for families, lots of amenities for anglers, and a location a short amble from a huge reservoir as well as a short drive away from Richmond city... and you've got Deer Ridge Camping Resort. It's settled scenically in the Eastern Indiana area along the I-70 corridor, making it well placed for stopovers for travellers going east to west or the other way round anywhere between Maryland and Utah. Among your leisurely options are a pool with adjacent solarium and plenty of sun loungers; miniature golf; a playground; a book exchange service, and stacks of outdoor space to ramble around this pretty parkland. Stop off for a few bits at the general store on your way back to the roomy accommodation area: it’s got everything you’ll need to get your camp in cosy order, from firewood to keep your campfire roaring, ice for the coolbox and drinks, propane, gifts and RV supplies. Then prepare to settle back for the evening around your firepit, sizzling up your alfresco eats to have by the fire or at one of the picnic tables dotted all around.

Local attractions

Venture to spend a day or longer around Middlefork Reservoir a short walk from the resort – it’s got plenty to keep all ages active and amused, including a lake that spans 177 acres and parkland that stretches across 100. It's well set up for anglers too, who have amenities like a bait shop, a fish cleaning station and a boat launch ramp at their disposal, and there's an adventure playground, boating on the lake, nature trails and a nature area to hand too. At Richmond, just under 10 minutes' drive away, delve into history around its many museums, like Wayne County Historical Museum, Richmond Art Museum and the Joseph Moore Museum of natural history. The city’s undisputed reigning champ in this department is however the Model T Ford museum, with a collection of memorabilia and vehicles like a 1923 English-built town car and a 1925 fire truck. Plan to remain around this part of Richmond city after your museum trips: it’s pretty easy to make a day of it with a wander around the Depot District, a fab destination filled with curiosity shops, spectacular murals, independent restaurants and artisan food and drink businesses.
