  • Friendly site a few minutes' drive from the spa town of Saillon
  • Verbier, Nendaz and Champéry within a half-hour drive for skiing
  • Excellent restaurant on site, plus heated communal kitchen and lounge
What an active place is the mountainous area around Saillon. In summer it’s all climbing, bike rides and scenic hikes (several of which take you through the Valais vineyards, which is always a promising proposal). Winter visitors have heaps of ski trails to choose from within a half-hour drive, and plenty of other cold-season antics including cross country skiing, curling, skating and tobogganing. Suffering post-activity sore muscles? What better excuse to wallow in the warm waters of Saillon’s thermal baths. Perhaps a a bit hungry too? This is where Relais de la Sarvaz, a friendly site just outside the village, really comes into its own – guests here can feast on top-notch meals with minimal effort by bagging a table at the restaurant or the brasserie. When not roaming, wallowing or eating, there’s plenty more to fill time on site – an indoor/outdoor pool for summertime swims, a volleyball court, a miniature golf course, a playground and a trampoline, plus bikes that can be borrowed for free to take out for short jaunts in the summer months. No need to fear being left out in the cold here, for the site’s heated main building houses games rooms, a cosy TV lounge, a launderette and a kitchen with fridge, freezer and dishwashers. The toilet block has free hot showers and accessible facilities, and there’s a well-stocked shop on site to keep you supplied with essentials.

Liked: Everything! Great campsite where there was attention to detail that we don't often see. Only 250m from the cycling route Martigny to Sion and bus stop at the gate. Campsite was quieter when we visited, but plenty to see and do at the site and in the area and lots of walking around the orchards which was ideal for our dog. Recommend a trip to Vertic Alp over the Col de la Forclaz. Food in restaurant was good, but a little pricey

Disliked: Nothing.

Electric optional grass pitch (classic)

Liked: We stayed for just one night and wish it had been longer! The tent area is just an area of grass in the corner of the campsite, which was more than adequate. This site is lovely- quiet, clean and great facilities. I talked with reception a few times, and they were so very helpful. We borrowed the campsite bikes to visit the nearby village. They told us a good route and we had the most fantastic time- wizzing past all kinds of fruit along tiny roads in this fertile valley. We swam in the campsite pool. It is lovely, and we had it to ourselves. The children’s play area is fun.

Disliked: Nothing, everything was perfect.

Liked: Very nice location, nice pool for the kids and the park was very good. It’s also a secure pitch. The showers are very nice intact probably the best ones we have had. The wash room is also very nice. The upstairs is very good too it has a little games room too. Staff are very helpful and friendly

Disliked: It had rained when we got there so the pitch was waterlogged which was a nightmare. We had pitch 144 and 154. We was next to a tree and there was an ants nest. Our tent was covered in them! The ground is very hard so be warned the ground is very rocky and uneven. I think local people live there too and I feel like they look at visitors as a nuisance. Blocked drains which caused puddles going onto the pitch

Electric optional grass pitch (classic)

Liked: Plenty of facilities amazing pool, game room, big park, very safe and secure, lovely reception, very clean, pitches well sperated and maintained, separators for privacy too. Bathrooms had stalls for makeup, also hair dryers and more. Absolutely loved it out of all the country camps I visited for my tour of Europe.

Disliked: Showers had crawlies (bugs). They were really clean though so it was fine.

Electric optional grass pitch (classic)

Liked: Very clean site, friendly staff, excellent facilities, lovely pool and games options. Great cycling routes. Easy access to local town and amazing scenery. Plenty of room on pitch. Brilliant to have a fully serviced pitch. We would definitely return!

Disliked: Reception hours limited, meaning it was not possible to play mini golf when we returned from a day out. Residual waste bins overflowing on day before collection. Chemical toilet facility not marked correctly on site map but when we found it, it was excellent. No terrestrial TV reception but there was a communal TV room.

From the manager: Hello James Thank you for your feedback and for your kind words about our site and facilities! We're glad you enjoyed your stay. Regarding your concerns, I’d like to clarify that it’s possible to access the restaurant area even when the reception is closed. Our restaurant team would have been happy to provide you with the equipment for mini golf or to help you in finding our facilities. We understand that there may have been more waste than usual as it is the high season and waste are collected only on Wednesday. But our team works hard to keep the waste area clean and tidy. Additionally, we do have cables available at the reception to connect to the TV. We hope to welcome you back soon! Team of Relais de la Sarvaz

Local attractions

If you’re here in summer, this is excellent walking territory, catering for both hardcore mountain hikes and gentler rambles through the vineyards or along the banks of the Rhône, which passes by the village. Those who prefer pedal power can hit the mountain bike trails or borrow bikes for leisurely local pottering (free for up to four hours). Come by in winter months and it’ll take you around half an hour to reach the pistes of Verbier, Nendaz, Veysonnaz, Thyon or Champéry. There’s a skating rink and a hair-raising toboggan track in La Tzoumaz, 25 minutes away, and the area has plenty of signposted cross country skiing routes too. Whatever the season, the waters are warm at the thermal baths in Saillon itself and Ovronnaz (a 20-minute drive away), and there’s culture to take in at Isérables Museum and Martigny’s Fondation Pierre Gianadda.
