- At the crossroads of three big cities: Borlänge, Västerås and Uppsala
- Kiosk, café and grocery shop
Small, scenic and with its own lakeside beach: peaceful Swedish stays are easily sorted at Falkudden Camping och Stugby.
Based at the village of Näs in the province of South-Dalarna, Falkudden is in pretty surrounds near the mouth of the Dal river, about 20 kilometres from Hedemora and at the crossroads of the main cities of Borlänge, Västerås and Uppsala.
Outdoor activities such as swimming, fishing, canoeing, hiking and biking are all easily accessed from here, as well as hiking tours in the spectacular surroundings of Färnebofjärden National Park. Canoeing and boating is available from the site, along the lake or to one of its preserved islands for a picnic or a hike.
Falkudden is a green and handsome site, with well-kept buildings and swathes of open space. Facilities include a reception area with boat, canoe and bike hire as well as fishing kit for sale and tourist info; a small grocery shop; a kiosk with a terrace, and a café serving coffee, ice cream, sweets and snacks such as sandwiches and pizza. Fresh baguettes and breakfast can be ordered for the next day.
A restaurant with takeaway is nearby.

Local attractions
Canoeing and boating straight from the site is a much recommended way to explore the local surroundings: drift along the water or paddle to one of the local islands for a picnic. Also nearby, beaver safaris run from late August and in early September to see beavers in their natural habitat.
About 30 kilometres to the east between Dalarna and Gävleborg counties is the Färnebofjärden Natural Park, covering over 10,000 hectares of floodplain, lowlands, forest and nature reserves. It's a hiking haven as well as a birdwatching one: over 200 types of birds live here including woodpeckers, ospreys, white-tailed eagles and aquatic species like terns, herons, cranes and swans.
A day among the huge caverns and lakes of Sala Silvermijn, one of the world’s best preserved mine settings, is also a top local trip; closer to home, you could have peaceful pedals in the surroundings of Näs or play tennis 500 metres from the site (make reservations at reception).
For urban days, the small town of Avesta is 20 kilometres away, and Dalarna's oldest city Hedemora within 45. The cities of Borlänge, Västerås and Uppsala are all about 90 kilometres from Falkudden.
