  • Spectacular setting on Stöde lake and by the Ljungan river
  • Fish for pike and perch, swim or hire a canoe or boat, all on site
  • Heated pool, two saunas, gym and access to one of the St. Olav Ways
A spectacular lakeside setting is what you'll get for your dosh at serene and scenic Stöde Camping, a quiet and friendly site for quick stopovers or long lazy breaks (latter much recommended). Right on the shores of Stöde Lake and by the Ljungan river in the Sundsvall Municipality near Edsta, this peaceful place is also a few minutes' walk from a beach, close to the E14 Highway for easy access, and about 10 minutes' walk from Stöde village centre. It's a family site with a good range of kid-friendly attractions within easy reach... because keeping the small ones happily occupied is also what makes a peaceful and relaxed hol. Lounging around on site is also much recommended, as you'll have two saunas to sink into (investigate each thoroughly) and a heated indoor pool to splash around in. In and around the lake, you can jump in for some Swedish wild swimming, fish for pike and perch, or hire a canoe or rowing boat from the Camping Stöde team. There's tennis if you feel slightly energetic, a gym if you feel somewhat more so, and access to one of the St. Olav Ways from the site if you're up for a trek all the way to neighbouring Norway. Stöde is a friendly, cosy and popular but quiet site, with plenty of space among a green setting of lake and mountain. The nearest restaurant and grocery shop are in the village, a scenic half-mile stroll away.

Local attractions

You don't have to wander far to access days' worth of activities and attractions in the area around the site: Stöde Camping is steps from a Swedish section of the St. Olav Ways, the pilgrimage paths around Sweden, Norway and Denmark to the spectacular cathedral of Trondheim, the most northerly Christian centre in the Middle Ages. (If you're up for it, it's only just under 500 kilometres to Trondheim from here.) Whatever your kids are into, they'll very likely like a day at Huberget – and grownups will likely like the fact that it's an easy 100-metre amble away. This family attraction, home to 19 buildings housing artefacts from the area's past, also has a lively programme of events for all ages, including live music, pony rides and face painting, all in a pretty picnic spot overlooking the Ljungans valleys. For splendid views over a restaurant meal, take the car half an hour to Flataklocken, the mountain considered to be Sweden's geographical centre. And for adrenaline, get to Getberget (30 kilometres by car), the high peak with two ski lifts and a vertical drop of 150 metres. Shopping can be sorted at the Birsta centre, 40 kilometres away.
