Batteries starting to run low after a few months without a break? Let Espacio Finca Alegría come to the rescue. This family- and dog-friendly site a 20-minute drive from the historic port city of Cartagena, in the Murcia region, is a hub of rest and relaxation. It is run by two yoga instructors, Rocío and Rubén, and unsurprisingly, activities like yoga, meditation and energy therapies take centre stage here. There’s no obligation to join in, of course, and if you want to just chill poolside and catch up on your reading, you’re very welcome to do so. Oh, go on… maybe just a massage to ease those aching muscles. Fancy a day at the seaside? (And by the way, if you don’t have your own transport you can rent a car on site – by the hour or by the day.) Playa de Portús is only 15 minutes’ drive away, with its sheltered beach and calm waters where you can snorkel, have a go at paddleboarding or go on a kayaking expedition to places like the Cueva Neptuno sea cave. If you prefer to be on terra firma, there are lots of hiking trails in the nearby Sierra de la Muela, Cabo Tiñoso y Roldán nature area (15 minutes), where you might catch sight of falcons and eagles soaring high, plus wild boars and foxes. The store on site sells locally grown organic fruit and vegetables, plus eggs, cheese, bread and whatever else you might need for your barbecue. (And wine and beer, in case you were starting to worry.) Other amenities include a toilet block with showers, a washing-up area and a launderette.

Liked Sitio muy familiar, tranquilo, noches espectaculares bajo las estrellas sin contaminación lumínica

Disliked Éramos solo dos o 3 caravanas y nos apiñamos todas en el mismo sitio... quizá hubiera sido mejor que nos orientaran al enseñarnos las parcelas disponibles para separarnos un poco de los vecinos.

Liked Lovely site, nice pool, very good restaurant, owners very friendly and super helpful, bit out of the way and middle of nowhere but knew this before booked.

Disliked Could do with upgrading the toilet/shower facilities, very dated to be honest, would make a huge difference if completely updated them. Would also be good if had more tables/chairs around the pools with Parasols to sit after a swim and in the shade and enjoy the pool area.

Liked It was a very quiet area, friendly staff and spacious pitches, nice pool.

Disliked It lacked a lot of shade, both the new and old bathrooms are filthy and not well maintained with a smell of cat urine surrounding these areas. There are two dogs on the campsite which have a litter of puppies the dogs are not well looked after me and my partner as well as others filling their water up constantly, the dogs are flee infested including their puppies it is a shame they are just left.
The pool is nice but it needs cleaned as their are lots of wasps as in 20-30 constantly and no seats to sit on.

Liked The hospitality of the site was good as well as the quiet location.

Disliked Noisy neighbour, slamming car door, children running around our tent from 12.30pm till 4am, so glad it was our last night.

Liked We enjoyed our one night stay. The pitch was clean. The staff were friendly. The views amazing. We liked that the pool was open until very late. My son enjoyed this the most.

Disliked There was only one staff member in the restaurant who was doing the cooking, drinks and serving the tables. It would be good to have more staff.
The showers and toilets could do with a refurbishment.

Route directions

Use Google Maps to avoid the route passing through Avenida de los Pinos, as it is not a good road. The best route is the path that begins from 'Caravana's Home'. First, go there and, then add 'Espacio Finca Alegría' into on Google Maps. For public transport, take Line 6 to the final stop; the site owners can pick you up there if arranged in advance.

Local attractions

Parque Tentegorra (15 minutes’ drive) is an adventure hub with ziplines and treetop walks, plus an aquapark with water slides (and a pirate ship in the middle of the children’s pool). There’s also a playground with a giant slide and picnic areas complete with barbecue stations. When in Cartagena, check out the Roman amphitheatre, overlooked by the ruins of an old cathedral on one side and the hilltop Castillo de la Concepción on the other. The Civil War Museum has displays on this dramatic period in Spain’s recent history, or you can head to the Naval Museum on the harbour. Built in the mid-1930s in a mock-medieval style, the Batería de Castillitos (45 minutes) perches high above the sea at the tip of the Cabo Tiñoso headland. In addition to the huge guns (fired only once during the Spanish Civil War), there are far-reaching coastal views.
