Camping La Paz: Beautiful location

General

  • Peaceful seaside site by the beach on the east coast of Asturias
  • Spectacular views of the sea and coast
  • Beachside bar-restaurant with local, international and tapas menus

Yep... you'll reckon you could paz some time here all right. The views at Camping La Paz, near Llanes in Asturias, are all pretty smashing ones of the Spanish coast and the clear blue sea – and as pitches are spread across several terraces and levels, there's plenty of them to go round (no fighting for the coveted field-edge spot here).

And a location right by the beach is pretty smashing too – a good chunk of that gorgeous outlook is of Vidiago beach, a mere couple of minutes' stroll from this peaceful coastal site. Trot down the short footpath to hit the beach for swims, sand loafing and rockpooling, or stick around on site to admire from above. The beach-view bar-restaurant is the place for that: soak up the Spanish sun from the bar terrace while sampling bites from the local, tapas and international menus.

Planning a picnic, a barbecue or an evening round the campfire? Pick up all the necessaries from the site's supermarket, stocked with groceries, newspapers and kit for beach and camping. If you're to hole up here for a while (as is surely tempting…) you'll perhaps need a bit of clean kit; take care of that at the laundry room, which is kitted out with washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing boards.

Other amenities include a motorhome service point and four toilet and shower blocks – because not having to stand in a loo queue is also pretty smashing...

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The grocery shop is open between 08/04 and 12/10.

The restaurant is open between 08/04 and 12/10.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

The only thing we liked about Camping la Paz, was the location.

    Disliked:

    Where do I start.

When arrived it was very busy and took us a while to check in. You have to park in the car park to the side before you check in. The hill up if you want a sea view is high so I’m not sure big camper vans or motor homes would get up it. didn’t agree that a sea view was the same price as being in the woods.

We had to camp in the wooded bit, it was quite tight to manoeuvre around into the pitch .

If you are into drugs and partying then this place would be for you. Most of the people were partying untill 4.30am when quiet time is supposed to be 12-8am. There appeared to be some DJ party up on the cliff but we could hear it down where we stayed and clearly we was not informed of any parties. I’m thankful we did not have children because it’s meant to be a ‘peaceful’ campsite- it really is not.

We left after the first night out of three because it was disgusting how they can say it’s a peaceful campsite and family friendly when it’s really not. we did not get any sleep after a 5 hr drive to get to this place.

If you are after a nice restful campsite then I would avoid. It broke us to leave because we loved the cove beach....

The showers are like a hostel type block, how they expect three showers and four toilets to be enough for the amount of people staying I don’t know. There was no soap or hand dryers in the bathrooms, no privacy either.

This was meant to be our last campsite before going home and it really was the worst place which ruined our time here.

Considering it’s covid , up on the cliff top was completely packed and no covid rules were followed.

    A real big shame.

    Near the sea

    Disliked:

Where do you start, weird set up for showering and washing area (no hot water). No social distancing in either, no policing wearing masks. Welcomed by staff not wearing a mask, very narrow lane to access pitches.
Worst campsite on my recent travels.
Ideal for tents and younger generation.

Local attractions

The east of Asturias is known for its tiny old-fashioned villages, its cliffs and its beaches, so get in the car or hire a scooter and get to its small caves, coves and beaut sand beaches. Nudist beaches are also available nearby for those who don't like returning home with tell-tale tan lines...

Stacks of other top Spanish attractions and activities are within easy driving distance here too. Give your hiking boots or mountain bike a good workout on the hilly trails of the Picos de Europa National Park (an hour away), or take a more gentle wander around the very viewsome town of San Vicente de la Barquera (15 minutes' drive).

Sticking to the scenic coastline, it's worth meandering through the medieval centre of Llanes (15 minutes) before flopping on one of its sandy beaches, or taking in the prehistoric daubings at Ribadesella's Rock Art Center of Tito Bustillo (half an hour) before… sí, more beach flopping.

Foodies (and wine-ies) will also find this area smashing: there's loads to taste, but suggestions to start off with include the local stews, rice puddings, saffron and cheese, all washed down with a flagon of the region's famed cider.
