Beautiful location

General

  • Peaceful seaside site by the beach on the east coast of Asturias
  • Spectacular views of the sea and coast
  • Beachside bar-restaurant with local, international and tapas menus

Yep... you'll reckon you could paz some time here all right. The views at Camping La Paz, near Llanes in Asturias, are all pretty smashing ones of the Spanish coast and the clear blue sea – and as pitches are spread across several terraces and levels, there's plenty of them to go round (no fighting for the coveted field-edge spot here).

And a location right by the beach is pretty smashing too – a good chunk of that gorgeous outlook is of Vidiago beach, a mere couple of minutes' stroll from this peaceful coastal site. Trot down the short footpath to hit the beach for swims, sand loafing and rockpooling, or stick around on site to admire from above. The beach-view bar-restaurant is the place for that: soak up the Spanish sun from the bar terrace while sampling bites from the local, tapas and international menus.

Planning a picnic, a barbecue or an evening round the campfire? Pick up all the necessaries from the site's supermarket, stocked with groceries, newspapers and kit for beach and camping. If you're to hole up here for a while (as is surely tempting…) you'll perhaps need a bit of clean kit; take care of that at the laundry room, which is kitted out with washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing boards.

Other amenities include a motorhome service point and four toilet and shower blocks – because not having to stand in a loo queue is also pretty smashing...

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Please note that the pup tent is for storage use only.

Pitches are located at the top of the cliff, overlooking the sea, or in a flat, wooded field near the river Novales. Please let the campsite know your preference by using the 'special requests' box on the booking form.

Amazing views! Beautiful beach. Friendly staff who despite our difficulty getting up the hill to the site managed, in the end, to tow us up! Could walk to local village Pendueles across the fields, took about 20 mins. There is a small shop and a cafe and a rather expensive restaurant which was great for a beer!
    Toilets and showers good.

    Disliked:

Approach to pitches, wet day and our motor home tyres were unable to grip enough on the gravel to make the steep incline. Pitches quite small.

Good site with excellent views and walks but very hilly 14/09/2018

Views (fantastic), beach, Good supply of Electricity, helpful staff, good shop and bar. Motorhomes (7.5M) were not put on the sea facing cliff but in the "dingly dell" behind the cliff which was pretty with the babbling brook and the showers in the cave. The site was clean, facilities good, good bar at the top of the hill overlooking 2 beaches and cliffs and sea. The beach was sandy with good surf. Nearby village is 20 minutes walk away with extra bars and the bus stops in the village. There are lovely walks from the site along the Santiago Compostelo trail to Llanes incorporating the "bafoons" or blow holes, and if you go the other way you have amazing views of many small inlets, beaches and coves and the strange phenomenon of an inland beach - ie you get the sea, then cliffs, then water, than a beach. Easy going site that is very hilly so you need to be fit to walk to the bar and the beach but the views are amazing.

    Disliked:

I loved this site but I will mention that the hill you have to climb to get to the bar, down to the beach or to the village is very steep and large motorhomes (and large tents from what I could see) are not sited on the sea facing side of the cliff.

We'd dropped the kids at the airport the day we arrived here.
It's a quirky campsite in all respects. Little pitches perched on the hillside for surfers.
Bigger pitches in the river valley for tourers and long-stay.
They park your caravan for you - you will soon see why.
Toilet blocks built into the cliff face with rock walls!
Mostly the clientele is Spanish, but there were kids and adults there from several countries.
If you like the busy Cornish surf sites you'll love this one.
The shop sells a few essentials, but don't expect it to be like Waitrose! You can eat in the cafeteria, but it's pretty basic.
Walk to nearly Pendueles to go to the tiny but well stocked supermarket or to get the bus to Llanes. Also walk to the Buffones...

    Disliked:

It was a bit pricey, when they added the cost of an empty tent we used for storage. The pitch was too small for our sheltaPod.

Unless you can guarentee a cliff top location La Paz is best avoided. 28/08/2018

Location generally is excellent, small sandy beach mainly for the benefit of those staying at La Paz unlike so many other beaches on this coastline. If you get a cliff top location the whole atmosphere of the place changes to a positive. Views, openness and sea breeze. Some good cycling on local roads, great coastal walk passes through the site. Picos mountains nearby.

    Disliked:

Unless you book really early in the season you wont get a cliff top location. Those were taken up entirely by Spanish who spend all their holiday at the resort. You will most probably find yourself in the valley at the back. No views, no breeze, noisy and rather smelly at times of the day. Toilet blocks down there are built into the cliff so condensation is a constant problem. These need updating. The site was quite noisy, coming from the 'surf school tented village' and people staying on site in equal measures, sometimes until gone 2am! Even the Spanish were complaining and the very young staff running the site did not to our observations or knowledge tackle the perpetrators. All in all not a restful place unless you got on the beach.

The sea views at La Paz are outstanding. The site is well organised and all facilities are very clean.
Staff were very helpful at all times.

At first the terraced pitches seemed a little daunting, but are cleverly designed for various sizes of tents and caravans.

    Disliked:

The on site restaurant a bit too fast foodish.

[there are 2 sites here ; those on the cliffs overlooking the sea with no shade and a second site behind the hill in a valley with shady trees ]
Liked the location next to the sea, the surf was amazing [pack a body board] , nice cool sea breeze and shady trees in the valley site , next to several villages with bars and restaurants, the campsite's young male staff were very friendly and smiley and lovely [the rest of the demographic were nt]
The showers were amazingly powerful. A cleaner came several times a day to keep them and loos shining

    Disliked:

it was so busy , pitches like sardines [which would nt put me off returning at all] ; the noise of the alternative "surf folk' up the hill. No map given out of where the grey waste was or where to get water via a hose

Local attractions

The east of Asturias is known for its tiny old-fashioned villages, its cliffs and its beaches, so get in the car or hire a scooter and get to its small caves, coves and beaut sand beaches. Nudist beaches are also available nearby for those who don't like returning home with tell-tale tan lines...

Stacks of other top Spanish attractions and activities are within easy driving distance here too. Give your hiking boots or mountain bike a good workout on the hilly trails of the Picos de Europa National Park (an hour away), or take a more gentle wander around the very viewsome town of San Vicente de la Barquera (15 minutes' drive).

Sticking to the scenic coastline, it's worth meandering through the medieval centre of Llanes (15 minutes) before flopping on one of its sandy beaches, or taking in the prehistoric daubings at Ribadesella's Rock Art Center of Tito Bustillo (half an hour) before… sí, more beach flopping.

Foodies (and wine-ies) will also find this area smashing: there's loads to taste, but suggestions to start off with include the local stews, rice puddings, saffron and cheese, all washed down with a flagon of the region's famed cider.
