Beautiful location

General

  • Peaceful seaside site by the beach on the east coast of Asturias
  • Spectacular views of the sea and coast
  • Beachside bar-restaurant with local, international and tapas menus

Yep... you'll reckon you could paz some time here all right. The views at Camping La Paz, near Llanes in Asturias, are all pretty smashing ones of the Spanish coast and the clear blue sea – and as pitches are spread across several terraces and levels, there's plenty of them to go round (no fighting for the coveted field-edge spot here).

And a location right by the beach is pretty smashing too – a good chunk of that gorgeous outlook is of Vidiago beach, a mere couple of minutes' stroll from this peaceful coastal site. Trot down the short footpath to hit the beach for swims, sand loafing and rockpooling, or stick around on site to admire from above. The beach-view bar-restaurant is the place for that: soak up the Spanish sun from the bar terrace while sampling bites from the local, tapas and international menus.

Planning a picnic, a barbecue or an evening round the campfire? Pick up all the necessaries from the site's supermarket, stocked with groceries, newspapers and kit for beach and camping. If you're to hole up here for a while (as is surely tempting…) you'll perhaps need a bit of clean kit; take care of that at the laundry room, which is kitted out with washing machines, tumble dryers and ironing boards.

Other amenities include a motorhome service point and four toilet and shower blocks – because not having to stand in a loo queue is also pretty smashing...

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The restaurant is open between 18/03 and 15/10.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

The grocery shop is open between 18/03 and 15/10.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Please note that the pup tent is for storage use only.

Pitches are located at the top of the cliff, overlooking the sea, or in a flat, wooded field near the river Novales. Please let the campsite know your preference by using the 'special requests' box on the booking form.

Fantastic location. Almost every pitch has a sea view. The facilities were excellent and clean. All staff were friendly and helpful. The bar was also great with a terrace with unobstructed sea view.

    The view

    Disliked:

The road to the site is narrow winding and unlit at night. The road from reception to the pitches is treacherous: very steep, sharp hairpins and the surface is badly broken, loose and uneven concrete surfaces. An absolute nightmare if your on a motorbike. The pitches are small and difficult to access. The showers, whilst nicely tiled, have the common changing area outside the shower unit and you have to press a “light switch” to get hot water - completely unnatural to press an electrical switch when under a shower. Water temp varies between lukewarm and cold. The site is miles from any shops, bars or restaurants so you’re very much a captive of the site. Didn’t try the food in the restaurant but it has the feeling of a greasy spoon transport cafe. We left a day early as we’d had enough. Too expensive

Spectacular, if busy, site next to the beach in sight of the mountains04/09/2019

Spectacular, if busy, site next to the beach and within sight of the mountains.
We stayed for 4 nights (campervan 2 adults and kids aged 6+4). We really loved the site – being next to the beach is amazing, there are great things to do nearby and the views of the mountains are spectacular.
First impressions were ‘crumbs, this is cheek by jowl’. We had a pitch at a junction on the roadway going through the site, but actually there was very little traffic or people movement – it felt like most people stay at the site for a few days and spend most of their time at the beach. There seemed to be some Dutch youth groups staying at the site but there was no rowdiness or noise and everyone we saw on site was polite and friendly.
The facilities were cleaned very regularly and while the main shower block was very busy, the other blocks were never crowded.
Being able to walk down to the beach was great and the beach itself was fantastic. Lovely sand, there are rock pools to explore and the shelf is not steep so the waves are excellent for bodyboarding or novice surfing. The beach has lifeguards. Like a cute Cornish beach but with warmer water and warmer weather.
We spent a day in the Picos de Europa (drove one hour to Covadonga and got the bus up to the lakes) which was spectacular. The local town (Llanes) was quite large and has plenty of restaurants and shops which were even open on Sunday!

We would certainly stay here again due to its proximity to a great beach and with so many other things to do in the area.

    Disliked:

Smallish pitch, but given the pitches are basically dug into the hillside, above the beach, a small compromise to make.

Local attractions

The east of Asturias is known for its tiny old-fashioned villages, its cliffs and its beaches, so get in the car or hire a scooter and get to its small caves, coves and beaut sand beaches. Nudist beaches are also available nearby for those who don't like returning home with tell-tale tan lines...

Stacks of other top Spanish attractions and activities are within easy driving distance here too. Give your hiking boots or mountain bike a good workout on the hilly trails of the Picos de Europa National Park (an hour away), or take a more gentle wander around the very viewsome town of San Vicente de la Barquera (15 minutes' drive).

Sticking to the scenic coastline, it's worth meandering through the medieval centre of Llanes (15 minutes) before flopping on one of its sandy beaches, or taking in the prehistoric daubings at Ribadesella's Rock Art Center of Tito Bustillo (half an hour) before… sí, more beach flopping.

Foodies (and wine-ies) will also find this area smashing: there's loads to taste, but suggestions to start off with include the local stews, rice puddings, saffron and cheese, all washed down with a flagon of the region's famed cider.
