  • Glamping tents at an Asturias campsite right next to the beach
  • Oviedo and Gijón around half an hour's drive away
  • Restaurant, playground and watersports activities on site
What a location for an Asturias seaside holiday – Kampaoh Castrillón is a mere 100 metres from Santa María del Mar beach on the Costa Verde, so you’ll be able to stroll over to the sands whenever you fancy it. A lovely beach it is too, with two coves surrounded by cliffs and green areas where you can wander or settle down for a picnic. Various activities are offered here, including surfing, paddle surfing and beginner diving lessons, and the sheltered nature of the beach also makes it very suitable for swims and lazy afternoons of sunbathing. One beach not enough to satisfy you? Well, handily there are several others to tick off close by as well – some a short drive away and others within easy walking/biking distance. Or you might choose to mix things up with days out at nearby cities (Oviedo and Gijón are both around half an hour’s drive away) or hikes in the green surroundings. One thing you won’t have to devote any time to is setting up a tent, because the accommodation here is already set up, with furnishings, a fridge and beds made up ready for your arrival. Shared bathrooms are close by and you’ll also be able to use all the campsite facilities including a sports field, a playground and a restaurant.

Local attractions

Once you’ve spent a good amount of time on the beach by the site, you might like to set off for one of the other beaches along this stretch of coast. A 15-minute walk along the clifftops gets you to Playa de Bahínas, another sheltered cove, while 10 minutes in the car (or 20 minutes on a bike) will take you to the wide sandy Playa de Bayas (which has a naturist area as well as a lifeguarded swimming area) or the seaside town of Salinas, popular with surfers and with several places to eat too. The town of Gijón (half an hour’s drive) also has a beach, plus other attractions including the Bioparc Aquarium of Gijón and the Museo Ferrocarril. For more urban time, head to Oviedo (half an hour) to explore the Old Town, cathedral and archaeology museum. Back out in the countryside, you might like to get underground to the stalactite-filled Grotto Arbedales (15 minutes) or take a walk to the Buanga and Guanga waterfalls (45 minutes). You can also learn about the area’s mining history at Museo de la Mina de Arnao (five minutes) or see various Formula 1 exhibits at Museo y Circuito Fernando Alonso (half an hour).
