- Quiet family-friendly site with direct access to the beach
- Explore without a car: bus stop just outside
- 15-minute walk to the pubs, restaurants and shops of Candás
'A lovely gem' is a mere sliver of the praise piled upon Camping Perlora by gratified former guests – who've lavished compliments galore on the views, the location, the ease of getting about and the highly friendly vibe on this smashing Asturias site.
This small and amiable place is on a Perán peninsula cove on Spain's beaut northern coast, between Palmera beach and Perán Bay. Spectacular sea views are all around: from the pitches, the restaurant terrace, the tennis court and even from the big windows of the TV room… To see the sea up close, less than a kilometre's potter will take you to Palmera and Carranques beaches, for lazy days and watersports.
Bus and rail links are close by for rambling about the northern Spanish coast by public transport, and it's a scenic 15-minute wander to the local town of Candás where the pubs, restaurants, cafés and supermarket will see you sorted for supplies. A cake shop is in town too – possibly for picking up the stickiest specimen you can get your mitts on and bearing it back to site for a scenic picnic overlooking these fab blue waters…
Camping Perlora is a small and well-kept site, with spotless amenities including toilets and showers, a washing-up area, a launderette and facilities for disabled guests. A food shop and gas cylinders are to hand for essentials and a supermarket is just outside the site; the freshly baked bread at this last comes highly recommended too.

Local attractions
Take the scenic 10-minute meander along the promenade to reach the comely seaside town of Candás, a place of seafood and sardines, pubs and restaurants, cafés and shops. A potter around its port should be an early stop (remember there's a cake shop in town too…); after that, and if not too full of crumby goodness, watersports including diving, canoeing, swimming and waterskiing can all be accessed from here.
Hiking, cycling and mountain bike trails are plentiful in the area too, on the several coastal trails for hiking or the quiet rural roads and tracks inland for cycling and mountain biking.
Another most worthy option is to drive (or cycle, if hardy) the 13 kilometres to the spectacular Cabo de Peñas or Cape of Peñas, the most northern cape in the Principality of Asturias. Clamber the Gaviera rock for views in all directions, then take a trip to the famed Cabo Peñas lighthouse and its marine museum.
From the bus stop just outside the site, venture the 20 kilometres or so to the biggest city in the Asturias principality, Gijón, spectacularly set on the Bay of Biscay. Oviedo, the province capital, is 35 kilometres away.
