  • Peaceful Baiona glamping between the beach and a nature reserve
  • A half-hour drive to Vigo for Old Town and Cíes Islands trips
  • Swimming pool, watersports centre and restaurant on site
Take a look at this for a lovely location for an outdoor break – as you’ll see from the pics, Kampaoh Bayona Playa is in a special spot on the Galicia coastline, in a sheltered bay with a nature reserve on one side and a long stretch of sandy beach on the other. The surroundings and the chilled-out atmosphere on site mean that it’s easy to feel like you’re in a truly remote location here – but in fact this site is on the outskirts of the town of Baiona, with several shops and places to eat within easy walking distance (and more beaches…) That said, you won’t even have to leave the site to sort out things like food supplies, as there’s a restaurant on site serving Galician dishes and other tempting meals, plus an informal cafeteria and a good-sized supermarket. All the other essentials are in place too: the site has a launderette, a wifi service and bathrooms with disabled access and a special colourful kids’ area. And then it’s on to the fun stuff… you’ll have access to a swimming pool (with waterslide and bubble benches), sports courts and a playground, and there’s a programme of organised activities for guests of all ages. Site staff are on hand to help you organise other activities and outings, including birdwatching and bike tours, and there’s a watersports centre on site too. Sounds like you might be rather busy while you stay here, so it’s good to know that you’ll have a nice comfortable place to flop out, in a cool furnished tent with beds and bed linen provided.

Local attractions

As lovely as it is, there’s more to this stretch of coastline than your local beach. A walk along the coast around Baiona is a good way to get your bearing, taking you past several viewpoints and historic spots like the Ermita de Santa Marta and the Castelo de Monterreal. Elsewhere along the coast, you might like to visit the sheltered sands of Praia América (five minutes’ drive), the Carabela Pinta replica ship or the intriguing architecture of the Templo Votivo do Mar (both 10 minutes). And of course there’s the lovely seaside city of Vigo (half an hour’s drive), for a wander through the Old Town, a museum visit or two, or a boat trip to the stunning Cíes Islands. Turning inland, the Río Baíña riverside walk is a nice way to take in some of the scenery, or you can saddle up for a horseback outing nearby (both five minutes). A climb up Monte do Alba (20 minutes) to the chapel at the top brings rewards of excellent countryside and coast views.
