  • Galicia glamping site by Cabio beach, with direct beach access
  • A Pobra do Caramiñal five minutes' drive; Dunas de Corrubedo 20 mins
  • Furnished tents with bed linen provided; café and playground on site
Might it have been the word ‘playa’ that drew your attention to this site? The name doesn’t lie – Kampaoh Río Arousa Playa is right on the edge of Cabio beach, with direct access to the sands whenever you fancy it during your stay. It’s likely you’ll want to make many, many trips to the sands while you’re here – this is a particularly lovely beach in a sheltered bay with soft sands, clear water and lifeguards keeping an eye on proceedings in summer. This stretch of coast has numerous active options, including windsurfing and scuba diving, but there’s also plenty of space for laidback days of sunbathing and swims. Life on site is as laidback as you’d expect from a beach campsite, with a peaceful atmosphere and no noisy entertainments to disturb the calm. There’s a playground where the kids can run about a bit, but otherwise everything’s geared to chillout time, with low-key facilities including a sun terrace and a café. Various essentials are on hand here too, including a launderette, a mini market, a wifi service and bathrooms with toilets and showers. And of course as you’ll be glamping your tent will already be set up too, with beds, bed linen and furnishings all waiting for you. Being able to wander out to the beach whenever you like gives this place something of a remote feeling, but in fact it’s only a five-minute drive to A Pobra do Caramiñal, which has lots of shops and places to eat as well as a maze of old streets to wander through.

Local attractions

The beach by the site may well occupy a fair chunk of your time, but it’s far from the only stretch of sand around here. If you’d like to expand your coastal horizons, hit the long beach in A Pobra do Caramiñal (five minutes’ drive), set off for a surf lesson in Ribeira (10 minutes) or just head out on foot to find one of the coves within a short walk – perhaps Playa de Niñeiriños or Praia da Laxe. This area also lends itself well to coastal hikes, whether you’d like to scramble through the sands at Dunas de Corrubedo (20 minutes), look out for historic sites like the Dolmen de Axeitos (15 minutes) or climb up to local viewpoints for excellent vistas and then take a dip in the Río Pedras natural pools (15 minutes). Or how about a city day for a real change of scenery? Santiago de Compostela (50 minutes) is a lovely place for a wander, with some stunning architecture – notably in the cathedral and grand plazas. There are some great museums here too, plus some tempting places to eat.
