  • Coastal site 25 minutes' drive from the old port city of A Coruña
  • A short walk from watersports at sandy Gandario beach
  • Fishing into the sea from the site, plus bike hire
How might one fancy a seaside site in a comely coastal setting, a short walk from a sandy beach with watersports and cliffside hikes a few minutes’ walk away – and a setting 25 minutes’ drive from the spectacular port city of A Coruña? Book forthwith, as Camping Aguiar has all this and a good bit more. This setting between sea and mountains is also among a series of spectacular bays and estuaries known as the Rías Altas, 60 kilometres from the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. Whatever flavour of trip you fancy off site, the park’s clued-up owners know reams of info about the region if you feel like venturing further from your seaside setting. A friendly family-run site with spectacular sea views, Camping Aguiar’s pitches are surrounded by trees for plenty of shade, and all plots are equipped with electric hook-ups and drains to make stays here a cinch. Fishing fans can cast a line into the sea from the site, and the golden sands of Gandario beach are next door for basking and watersports. The café is where you should head when you’re in need (want) of a cold wine or beer, to be had on its shaded terrace. For supplies off site, a small eatery is next door and the nearest supermarket is about a kilometre away; the site's also a short drive from the shops and eateries of Sada.

Local attractions

Dotted with traditional fishing villages, fine sandy beaches and a whole heap of historic monuments, the Galicia region is a tiptop spot for both sightseers and outdoorsy sorts alike. The site’s setting makes getting out and about for outdoorsy adventures easy: fishing is available on site and around the coastline, and hiking, cycling and watersports are popular pursuits in the immediate vicinity too. For an urbanised day out, take yourself to the city of A Coruña, 30 kilometres away, to see its medieval Old Town and survey the surrounding seascape from the Tower of Hercules, a UNESCO-listed ancient Roman lighthouse with stunning views out over the coast. Elsewhere, the UNESCO-listed Old Town of Santiago de Compostela city – is around 50 minutes’ drive from base. When here with tiddlers in tow, a watery day out to Aquapark Cerceda and its wave pools, enormous slides and swirly flumes is an absolute must-do.
