It’s been many moons since the Barrado family took the helm at Camping Parque Natural del Monfragüe – more than 20 years’ worth of them, in fact. With that in mind, it’s a fine idea to budget as much time as possible for a stay here: clearly this excellent Extremadura spot is the kind of place that makes folks want to settle in for some time. And it's easy to see why. This is a site with a lot going for it on the location front – it’s surrounded by a biosphere reserve, with the rural trails, scenic drives and outdoorsy activities of the Monfragüe National Park 20 minutes to the south, and medieval Plasencia 15 minutes to the north for city days. Supermarkets, cafés and restaurants are in Malpartida de Plasencia, 10 minutes away by car; if you haven’t got wheels it’s a 20-minute amble from train station to site. It helps, too, that the family have put a lot of thought into refining their place since they first moved here way back in 1998 – there are now two pools to splash in or sunbathe by, along with a tennis court, sports area and playground. Kids’ activities run through the summer, and there’s a social room with board games, a library and a fire to cosy up by when it gets chilly. Spacious pitches all have electrical connections to keep all your kit whirring, and the site’s got all the essentials covered for a comfy stay: a launderette, small supermarket, a bar and cafeteria (which are closed every Wednesday) and showers where hot water flows 24 hours a day.

From the manager: Lamentamos que su estancia no haya cumplido sus expectativas, aunque nos sorprende que durante cinco noches no se nos trasladara en recepción ninguna de las incidencias que ahora expone en su reseña.

Si una parcela presenta restos o cualquier deficiencia de limpieza, basta con comunicarlo nada mas llegar para que nuestro personal pueda revisarla y solucionarlo de inmediato. Lo mismo ocurre con la falta de jabón en los baños. Contamos con personal de limpieza diariamente y, como en cualquier establecimiento, puede producirse una incidencia puntual, pero difícilmente podemos subsanar aquello de lo que no tenemos conocimiento.

Respecto al riego realizado por otros clientes, se trata de una actuación particular de unos huéspedes y, de habernos informado de que estaba ocasionando molestias o mojando sus pertenencias, desde recepción habríamos intervenido inmediatamente.

En cuanto al calor, estamos en Extremadura y en verano las temperaturas pueden ser elevadas. El camping dispone de arbolado y zonas de sombra, aunque evidentemente no podemos garantizar sombra permanente en todas las parcelas durante todas las horas del día. Precisamente para hacer más agradable la estancia en los meses de calor, nuestros clientes de camping tienen a su disposición nuestras piscinas, totalmente gratuitas durante su estancia.

Agradecemos especialmente que destaque la amabilidad de nuestras recepcionistas y el trabajo de nuestro equipo de limpieza. Nos habría gustado que durante esos seis días nos hubiera dado la oportunidad de atender personalmente el resto de sus quejas y ponerles solución en el momento, en lugar de conocerlas únicamente una vez finalizada la estancia.

Sentimos que hayan decidido no volver, pero creemos que también es justo señalar que nuestro equipo está disponible para solucionar las incidencias cuando se nos comunican.

Liked Authentieke Spaanse camping. Hobbelige ruime plaatsen. Sanitair was schoon. Zwembad was goed en erg fijn dat dit open was gezien de 36gr! Kammer dat er niet 1 of 2 goiletten open waren bij het bad. De omgeving de ligging fantastisch! Het infocentfum vh natuurpark ook een aanrader.

Disliked Mensen die nog laat aankomen, de kinderen speelden in de was0laats voetbal, shotten tegen de wasmachines enz. Ikzelf heb een opmerking gegeven, in dovemansoren, ben dan naar de receptie geweest maar alles was dicht.

Local attractions

Make a beeline for the Monfragüe National Park if you’re after alfresco times – get your boots on and take to the hiking trails, or sign up for guided tours in Malpartida de Plasencia. Horse riding days, off-road drives and guided hikes are all popular picks, as are photo-snapping safaris and specialist birdwatching tours (vultures, imperial eagles and black storks are all out there to be spotted). Up for a bit of urban activity instead? Medieval Plasencia, 15 minutes away, is well worth a wander: a fair chunk of the original walls (built back in 1198) still stand strong, and there’s much to visit within those walls. The pretty Palace of Mirabel, Convent of San Vincente Ferrer and two cathedrals, built right next to each other, are some of the top sights. If you’re after more town times, try UNESCO-listed Cáceres (50 minutes’ drive) for another eye-opening Old Town; for more rural rambles, it’s about the same length of drive to the Jerte Valley and gorgeous natural sights like the Nogaledas waterfalls.
