It's free, quick and easy!
- Spectacularly scenic stays on a working organic farm in lush valley
- A 40-minute drive from Xàtiva and one hour from Valencia
- Swimming pool, honesty bar, yoga and massages
If valley views, ‘relaxation days’ and tapas aren’t part of your plan for hols in Spain, they really should be… Get all three at Casas Benali, a family-friendly site on a renovated hamlet and working farm 25 minutes’ drive from the small town of Enguera in Valencia province.
It may be tempting to spend all day at the table over a glass of local wine, but that would be failing to make the most of everything else this site has to give; pass mornings at yoga, meditation and tai chi, unknot muscles with massage, and hit reset with detox retreats.
Prefer something a little more active? Hikes through the fields and onto the famed long-distance GR7 route can be started on site, with the site team leading botanical walks and more introspective silent hikes if something guided appeals. Kids can burn off extra energy on the play area or, during high season, with some kid-focused activities, or the whole family can cool off in the pool instead, where the poolside bar should keep everyone hydrated.

Local attractions
Hills explored on lengthy hikes, it’s time to turn attentions further afield. Wanders can start in the small town of Enguera (25 minutes’ drive) where there are bars, restaurants and supermarkets, as well as a regular outdoor market.
It’s 40 minutes from base to the town of Xàtiva – a must-visit for its castle, archaeology museum and monastery, as well as its frequent markets. A little outside the town is Cova Negra (55 minutes), a cave system that was once home to Neanderthals.
Sticking with nature, stops at the pretty Gorgo de la Escalera waterfall (30 minutes), and swims and picnics at the Albufera de Anna lake and nature reserve (25 minutes) come highly recommended. Within marginally less easy reach is Serra Mariola Natural Park, about an hour away.
If in need of a city day, an hour and 20 minutes’ drive will land guests in the coastal city of Valencia. This is a prime destination for families, with beaches, an aquarium and a waterpark, but is also a top spot for more historical and nature-filled wanderings, starting with the zoo in the dried-out Turia riverbed and moving on to history and fine arts museums, botanical gardens, palaces and a bullring.
