The natural landscapes of northern Catalonia await at Camping Llavorsi, a peaceful, family-friendly site in the Valls de Aneu, on the outskirts of the Parc Natural de l’Alt Pirineu. With wooded peaks all around, this is an excellent spot for keen walkers and climbers. Not to mention extreme sports enthusiasts: the area is a popular hub for canyoning and white-water rafting (on the Noguera Pallaresa river). But first things first: after your drive here, your canine companion (a welcome guest at the site) might well be in need of a little exercise. If you’re not quite ready to tackle those steep wooded trails, there’s a handy dog park on site. Next, find yourself a shaded grassy pitch and locate all the amenities you’ll need during your stay, including the modern toilet block (with facilities for disabled guests), showers and drying room. Done and done? Then let your holiday begin in earnest. Some might make a beeline for the covered terrace and order themselves a nice cold brew; others might prefer to take advantage of the free access to the swimming pool in the village of Llavorsí (five minutes’ drive or a pleasant 10-minute walk along the river). And some might want to start thinking about dinner… In addition to a well-stocked food shop, the site has a restaurant serving tapas, salads and burgers, plus a barbecue area with picnic tables for alfresco dining.

Local attractions

The dramatic waterfalls of Cascada del Gerber o Salt de Comials (25 minutes’ drive) can be admired as they tumble down a vegetation-covered rocky wall from an observation deck on the C-28. If you wish to get closer to the cascade, there’s a car park a little way further from where a forested path leads to the water. So many mountains in the vicinity means a vast number of observation decks from where you can take in the geography of the region. Make your way to Mirador de Burgo (25 minutes) or Mirador del Coll de So (40 minutes) for views of wooded slopes and rocky peaks beyond. An area of rugged peaks and clear-water lakes like the Estany Negre, Parc Nacional d’Aigüestortes i Estany de Sant Maurici (35 minutes) is crossed by an extensive network of signposted hiking trails. The park is home to birds of prey (including golden eagles), deer and wild boar, not to mention cultural highlights like the Romanesque churches of the Vall de Boí.
