Go up, up and away into the mountains of the Alt Pirineu Natural Park to find the spectacular setting of Càmping Serra, where the Noguera de Cardós river flows past the site, meadows are all around, and peaks rise up in the distance. This part of Catalonia is all about the outdoors, with much to keep you busy in the surrounding park – hiking, biking, fishing, paragliding and rafting should see you busy for starters among the mountains. Call into reception to chat to the knowledgeable staff about the best way to organise your adventures; they can often wangle you a discount with local operators. Staying on site, there's an outdoor pool with adjoining sun terrace, a football area, table tennis and a playground to keep all ages busy, and kids can sign up for a farm tour to meet the resident animals. Alfresco dining is a popular choice around here too – pick up your food at the site’s shop and cook at the covered barbecue area before heading out to the picnic tables for dinner among the fresh air. If you're feeling a tad lazier, take yourself over to the restaurant and its tapas menu of local faves, along with pizzas, salads and local organic meats to have indoors or alfresco on the terrace.

Liked El lugar: muy tranquilo, mucha naturaleza, mucha variedad de insectos (mariposas, escarabajos, saltamontes) para deleite de mis hijos pequeños. Un río para poder bañarse al lado del camping. Poco concurrido. Parque para los peques. Piscina. Personal amable. Parcela grande, con césped y plana. Baños muy limpios.

Disliked Para llegar hay que ir durante muchos kilómetros por carreteras con muchas curvas. Nos mareamos todos. Y con niños pequeños eso puede convertirse en una pesadilla.
Los baños del camping sencillos. No hay papel de wáter.

Liked Un lugar hermoso y completo. Los baños muy limpios, piscina limpia, zona de juegos para los pequeños, personal del camping muy amable y simpáticos, un río que cruza por el camping espectacular, bar restaurante y pequeño mercado entre más cosas. Sin duda volveremos a repetir.

Disliked Lo malo es que el tiempo de estancia no paró de llover, pero aún así se pudo disfrutar en familia. Obviamente no es culpa del camping y no hay nada malo que decir de ellos.

Local attractions

The Alt Pirineu Natural Park is the largest in Catalonia, and has plenty to tempt outdoorsy types. Site staff can suggest hiking trails galore depending on your fitness levels and interests: you can walk along riverside paths, visit little villages such as Boldís Jussà, climb up to the top of Punta Puiti for valley views, or visit the plain of Pla de Bohavi – all within easy reach. Once you’ve walked in the woods for a bit, you may wish to see what life is like up in the trees – if so, have a go at one of the treetop adventure courses at Pirineus Parc Aventura. The five circuits cater for adults and kids over the age of three, and there’s a lakeside beach where you can relax once you’ve returned to earth. It’s a 20-minute drive to the site’s preferred activity centre, for canyoning, rafting, kayaking, climbing, horse riding and bungee jumping: ask at reception about any current discounts for guests.
