Camping Neptuno

Medieval Pals (10 minutes’ drive) is not only your local village but also a gorgeous place for a wander through the maze of well-kept streets. Climb up to the Josep Pla lookout at the top of the village for the best views – they’re particularly fine at sunset. Around the village are lots of rice fields that you can explore on foot or by bike, and there are also some splendid trails along and around the coastline. You’ll be able to look out towards the Medes Islands – or maybe you’d like to get a bit closer by signing up for a snorkelling or scuba outing to the marine reserve around the islands. Elsewhere along the coast, villages like Begur (15 minutes) and Calella de Palafrugell (25 minutes) are worth visiting, as is the extraordinary Gala Dalí Castle & Museum (25 minutes), full of the colourful pieces the surrealist artist was known for. Historic Girona (50 minutes) should be on the schedule too, for its colourful riverfront and its gothic cathedral.
