One can see the sea from the grounds of Camping Del Mar. And the beach too: this is the Catalonian and Girona coastline and the start of the Costa Brava running from the nearby seaside resort of Blanes up north to the border with France. Del Mar is small and family run, but comes with excellent facilities for its size, all modernly maintained by the friendly and helpful team. It has a pool and a paddling pool, a tennis court and a basketball court, a football pitch, a pétanque court, miniature golf and ping pong tables: get active at these before meandering over to the site restaurant and terrace for mighty fine Mediterranean cuisine, pizza or takeaway over a glass of wine in the Spanish sunset…? Regular entertainment and activities including a kids' club, sports tournaments and pool games are organised in summer by the Camping Del Mar team.

Local attractions

Camping Del Mar's Barcelona province setting has it well placed for days close to base or day trips further afield, like to Girona (30 kilometres) or Barcelona (60 kilometres). The site's nearest town is Malgrat de Mar, a popular seaside and tourist stopoff on this part of Spanish coast for its three beaches and its cafés, bars and restaurants. A B road links the town to the three other main coastal towns in the area: Blanes, Lloret del Mar and Tossa. Of the three, Blanes is the biggest and probably the best known, particularly for its fireworks festival fizzing for eight full days each year at the end of July. Recommended sights to see in town are the botanical gardens including the 4,000 plant species of the Mar i Murtra; the town's old quarter dating back to Iberian and Roman times; the ruins of the 11th-century castle, and the old docks. On hol with kids who'd say pffft to all that? Take them to two topping family attractions within easy reach: the dolphin park and zoo of Marineland Catalunya, and the play of Parc Francesc Macia, back near base in Malgrat de Mar.
