  • Spacious site well placed for stopovers
  • Excellent base for exploring historic Salamanca
  • Regular bus from the grounds into Salamanca's Old Town
For days of Salamanca sightseeing and stopovers en route between Portugal and San Sebastián, the UK and France, Camping Regio in Santa Marta de Tormes should be just the job. A short and inexpensive bus ride takes you direct from the grounds into Salamanca (and back) every hour, and if you're up for a squeezing a spot of extra exercise into your itinerary, then you're a couple of kilometres from the Dutch-style riverside cycle path that leads right into the city's Old Town and branches off for jaunts into the newer part of the city. There's plenty of space for running around, and the large pool and its neighbouring paddling pool provide ample splashing and swimming space as well as sun beds around a grassy surrounding space. A food shop and a café-bar with a big sunny terrace are on site too in summer, but if you find yourself fancying a further-flung forage, a huge hypermarket and a smaller budget supermarket are both within about four kilometres. The restaurant there serves reasonably priced set menus and, happily, offers discounts to Camping Regio guests. Pitches are flat, level and grassy and the mature trees that lie dotted around the site provide a good balance of shade and sunny spots. There are water taps at every third pitch and if you need to catch up on a spot of laundry, this is the place to do it: the laundry room's two token-operated washing machines and dryers have been highly commended by previous guests, as have their sparklingly clean bathroom block and top-notch wifi service.

What customers say

This is a well-regarded site, praised for its excellent location and convenient bus service to Salamanca. Visitors frequently highlight the friendly and helpful staff, clean and plentiful facilities (especially the showers and toilets), and the large swimming pool. Pitches are generally described as spacious. Some guests noted that facilities could be dated and a lack of shade during hot weather, with some pitches potentially prone to dust or mud. The on-site bar and restaurant also receive positive mentions.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked The sheer scale of the facilities. 30 dirty washing plate sinks. Too many showers sinks and toilets to count. Level pitches and good grey and black water facilities. Large pool.areas with ice grassy areas. Small shop and bar for the camping area. Even when the site started to full up it was still empty.

Disliked Big big site and even though there were some trees still felt a bit desolate to me. The facilities were all showing there age and it was all getting a bit tired for me. Well looked after and everything worked but for me four stars means it should have been upgraded in the last ten, twenty years. A lot of the tops the chrome had worn off they were that old. Bought croissants in the morning from the bar shop and they were stale. Definitely not fresh.

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Lovely site with good services. It was very quiet despite being August and very hot. Pool was 24 degrees which my youngest (4) struggled with but the pool is very clean and big so no complaints. Football and tennis pitches too. Plenty of toilets, showers, basins, washing up facilities. €3 for a washing machine token meant we got all our washing done for a reasonable price.
Cycled into Salamanca which was a lovely old town. Almost all cycle lanes the whole way. Bus also available right outside the site for only €1.75 each.
A great site for our way home from Portugal only a short way off the motorway.
Wifi available across the whole site, but don't expect to be able to watch a video without it buffering!

Disliked Alot of the reviews mentioned leaves and I thought what a thing to moan about, but having said there, they got everywhere! Very minor negative, but it wouldn't hurt to sweep a few up.

Electric grass campervan pitch

Liked Excellent and ample and spotlessly clean facilities. Lovely pool. Easy bus into Salamanca. Electricity on every pitch. When the newly planted trees grow there will be lots of shade. Helpful staff, I didn't have the correct electricity connection and they had them for sale in the shop. Obviously get lots of Brits equally unaware! WiFi available across the site.

Disliked Not much shade

Electric grass motorhome pitch

Liked Reception staff friendly and helpful. Plenty of toilets, showers and washing up sinks. Never a need to queue. Express programmes on the washing machines. Bus stop directly outside so handy for getting into town.

Disliked Overall the site looked very untidy. Lots of fallen leaves, which can’t be helped but the planters all needed weeding and that would make everything look a lot tidier.

Local attractions

This is a brill base for exploring the vibrant and history-packed student city of Salamanca, without a doubt Castilla's liveliest city and famed the world over for its characteristic rare beauty. Make sure you visit Plaza Mayor – hailed by many as Spain's most spectacular central plaza – especially at nighttime to see the splendid illumination of its beaut baroque architecture. If skiing or snowboarding are your sports of choice, the resort of La Covatilla lies 80 kilometres from base, where there are 27 kilometres of slopes accessed by three ski lifts that transport you to elevations of between 1,990 and 2,368 metres above sea level. For golf, Zarapicos and Villamayor have good courses, and intermediate and experienced horse riders can visit the northern and southern valleys of Sierra de Gredos for hacks through open fields and along riverbanks for smashing views over the surrounding lands. The region is covered with a constellation of small villages, including La Alberca, Ciudad Rodrigo and Mogarraz, and there's a smashing woodland hiking path, the Camino del Agua, that runs along a route linking the villages of Mogarraz and Monforte.
