  • Peaceful family site on the banks of the Tormes river
  • Under six kilometres from the ancient city of Salamanca
  • Pools, indoor play, car wash and restaurant for guests and locals
There’s lots to like about the Castile and Leon site of Camping Don Quijote, but you might care to focus on the most important first – the restaurant here is rather special. Open to guests and locals alike – always a good sign – this stellar spot is great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or just a good drink. There’s an extensive wine list, as well as a menu for kids and special dishes throughout the year… all to work through indoors or out on the renovated terrace, or to take away to have by your berth. All that, and dogs are allowed too. The setting of the site is worth a postcard home too: Camping Don Quijote is on the banks of the Tormes river, only 15 minutes’ drive from the splendid old city of Salamanca, and about 20 minutes’ walk (a kilometre and a half) from local village Cabrerizos. And on site? There are pools for grownups and tiddlers, a multigames zone for indoor play, and a soccer field for kicking a ball about. The completely overhauled amenities include separate toilets for ladies, gents and guests with reduced mobility, hot water 24 hours a day, baby bathtubs and changing tables, and a laundry area with dishwashing sinks; the site also has a car wash. And one more, most excellent, aspect of that Camping Don Quijote restaurant? Let the staff know if you’re celebrating something and they’ll make your night go with an extra zing.

What customers say

This campsite is highly recommended for its spacious pitches, excellent facilities, and friendly staff. It's conveniently located by a river with lovely walks and offers easy access to Salamanca by bike or bus. The on-site restaurant is exceptional and very popular, though booking in advance is advised. While generally clean and well-maintained, some minor issues like sandy pitches and occasional road noise were noted.

Liked Lovely large pitches great shower facilities and large washing machines. Enjoyed drinks at the fab bar. The little shop was a bonus which just about stocked everything needed with the added bonus of fresh bread daily. Loved our walk along the Tormes River which runs alongside the camp

Electric optional hardstanding and grass campervan pitch

Liked Spacious pitches with plenty of light tree coverage, very helpful and friendly. Lovely restaurant on site, and small shop.
Easy cycle into Salamanca which is a beautiful city .
The toilets and showers were clean and spacious.
Good but I not intrusive lighting outside at night.
Very good WiFi signal.
Quiet site with camper washing facilities. Loved it.

Disliked Small issue . There is only one small round stub hook in the big shower cubicle - plenty of benches & hooks outside, if you don’t mind leaving things outside the cubicle. My stuff kept falling off the hook, inside the cubicle getting wet on the floor.

Electric optional grass tent pitch

Liked The wifi was decent, the staff was polite enough.

Disliked The site was given was hard RV ground (despite there being grassy plots available). There was no electric connection despite me paying for one. I was told someone will come and arrange one for me and no one did. I had to cancel my stay for the second night and check into a hotel. The only way to stock up is to drive down to Salamanca city. The restaurant at the site needs reservation.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass campervan pitch

Liked Good site with clear pitches. Felt a little cramped to me but was okay with our little van.

Was only there one night so didn't make great use of facilities.I imagine it'd be nice in better weather.

Restaurant was very good and staff were great. Book ahead!

Disliked Electric hookup made me very nervous as i had to reach through a hedge in a rainstorm to plug in, and the plastic cover of the unit was cracked.

Walk to toilets was very muddy after days of heavy rain.

Electric optional hardstanding and grass touring caravan or trailer tent pitch

Liked Large flat pitches with easy access. Good facilities with great showers. Restaurant was above average for a campsite, and used by lots if the locals. Good Riverside walks, about 80 minutes level easy walking on safe pathways to the centre of town. Taxi was 20 euros each way. Cheap fuel with easy access nearby. The staff were very helpful. The city old area was lovely with great places to eat.

Local attractions

Salamanca, of course… drive or cycle from Camping Don Quijote to this spectacular city, a university town, UNESCO World Heritage Site and former European Capital of Culture. Where to start? The Don Quijote team recommends just getting lost among the city streets; every corner, they say, is worth it, and at any time of year too. If you prefer your sightseeing time to be more itinerary-based, make first for Plaza Mayor, often called the most beautiful central plaza in the country, and stay until dark to see the baroque architecture light up. And then? Other Salamanca sightseeing options (there are many) include taking one of the four routes around the city, pottering around the Casa Lis Art Nouveau and Art Deco museum, having a look at the Escuelas Mayores courtyard at the University of Salamanca, and sampling yet more local cuisine such as chanfaina (steamed rice with pork) and hornazo meat pies – drop into the visitors’ centre in the San Millán Church for all the info you need.
