Scenic stays close to burgos

  • Peaceful site four kilometres from the UNESCO city of Burgos
  • River beach within 200 metres of the site
  • Scenic terrace, restaurant, play area and communal lounge
What a pretty place – and how splendidly set for old city sightseeing too. Peaceful and family-friendly Camping Fuentes Blancas in Spain's north-western community of Castile and León is a bit of a beaut: set greenly and spaciously among the Castile and León countryside but only four kilometres from the fab old city and UNESCO World Heritage Site of Burgos. You can pedal all the way to town from here – hire your wheels on site if you haven't brought your own – along the mostly flat route of the BU-800 (you should get there in under an hour along the same path if you care to amble instead). Or you could ramble off along the site's handsome tree-lined trails, or take your bucket, spade, beach towel and fishing rod to the river and sandy beach a minute or two's stroll away. Have a gander of the site pics to see the scenery you'll be settling down among when back at base: you'll probably plump for mucho time on the green and spacious terrace for post-sightseeing or post-sands sups, pausing occasionally for a plunge into the pool if you need to cool off. The team sorts entertainment for all ages if you're in a bit of a dither about what to do, with competitions, dancing and shows all on offer; there's a communal lounge for lounging indoors, and the kids have a well-equipped playground to clamber and swing around.

What customers say

This campsite offers a superb location, with easy and pleasant cycle or walking routes into Burgos. Visitors frequently praise the friendly and helpful staff, the spacious and often shaded pitches, and the excellent on-site bar and restaurant. However, a recurring theme is that the toilet and shower facilities are dated and in need of refurbishment, with some reports of cleanliness issues and broken amenities. Despite this, many guests found the site to be a good value stopover and would recommend it.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Burgos is a wonderful town, great walks, parks and an abundance of history. Unfortunately, the town is let down by Camping Fuentes Blancas.

Disliked The staff were rude and disinterested. Some worked very hard serving from the bar and with food, but a smile to the guests could have gone a long way. The pitches were extremely close together, not sure fire and safety was met, and there was precious little space to put chairs and a table out. Around the bar area there was a great deal of litter from the previous day and still glasses and other debris on the tables from the previous evening. The toilets and showers were outdated, many locks broken and Chris Packham would have been proud of the wildlife living in these buildings. Wifi only at Reception

Electric grass pitch

Liked The site is fantastic for walking and cycling, it's an easy ride via a great cycle lane and a lovely riverside walk into the city. Across the road is a forest and an open area for walking the dog, if you have one. The restaurant is reasonable and the food more than passable.

Disliked Not really a dislike, just some comments: The pitches are pretty uneven, and the facilities need updating, although relatively clean. We first stayed 6 years ago, and there doesn't seem to have been much updating or maintenance done.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The walks surrounding but away from the site , the bike path into the city and the city itself was beautiful..apart from that the site was awful!

Disliked The pitches were not marked so everyone was literally on top of eachother it was a free for all! The trees in the site were shedding the catkins and although this is nature and out of human control, it was absolutely terrible..it was like a blizzard of fluff constantly, you couldn't be outside, it got absolutely everywhere, we were covered the dog was covered the inside of the motorhome was covered ..it was hard to breath!
The toilets and showers were terrible, never saw a cleaner, showers heads were all broken and the lights constantly went off whilst you were in the shower!
The 'restaurant' if you can call it that was heaving with people drinking every evening you had to cue to order anything and the food I saw looked so basic, we did not bother to even try to get a drink.
The site was very tired, unmainained, trees were hanging over paths, I saw a few holes in the concrete that could cause nasty accidents if not seen, it really was awful, other campers all were saying the same and as this site cost more per night than most others we have been too I was so annoyed we had booked it! Its a shame there aren't many other campsites near because the city and walks etc really were lovely.

Liked Plenty of toilets. Spacious pitches and the 2 ladies on reception were brilliant and spoke excellent English. Fantastic restaurant

Disliked When we first arrived the place was heaving and we wondered what we had booked. Realised the locals go to lunch at the campsite restaurant and it is excellent.

Liked The showers, powerful, hot and no timer.
An hours walk, 15 min cycle to Burgos.
Choose your own pitch. Relax vibe. Good walks in local area and lots of casual cycling paths.
We didn’t do this but people we spoke to saved a lot with ASCI card.

Disliked Toilet block a bit dated but clean and perfectly adequate.

Local attractions

You might opt for a day on the beach or the Camping Fuentes Blancas terrace first, but do go forth to Burgos soonish, for spectacular sights galore in this splendid old city. Probably the most famed Burgos attraction is its cathedral, a listed UNESCO World Heritage Site dating back to the 13th century and with various bits and pieces added since. Indoors, art buffs can browse around the many paintings and sculptures of the cathedral, where there's work by the Colonia family and Gil de Siloé among many others. Kids might like a look around the Museum of Human Evolution/Museo de la Evolución Humana, the most visited museum in Burgos; if not, whirl them around the biking and rambling paths of one of the city parks; the Parque del Castillo has play areas as well as spectacular views of the city.
