  • Quiet site among the Cabañeros National Park in Navas de Estena
  • Kayaking, paintballing, horse riding, cycling and nature spotting
  • Half Olympic-sized outdoor pool, stargazing and hikes from the site
Stargazers, nature spotters and sporty sorts, bring your kit along on hols here: Lincetur Centro de Turismo Rural's setting in the Cabañeros National Park, among the Iberian Peninsula’s Montes de Toledo mountain system, means it's surrounded by Mediterranean woodlands, peaks and broad plains and in an excellent spot for various outdoorsy pursuits. Grownups and tiddlies alike are well sorted around here for active days out: the Ruta del Boqueron de Estena starts right outside the site – as do several other walking and cycling trails – and several companies in the local vicinity organise activities like kayaking, paintballing and horse riding. Elsewhere, a small reservoir and several rivers and creeks are nearby refreshing dips when the sunshine is scorching. Wildlife spotters and birdwatchers will be well pleased to discover that the lands around the site are home to deer and wild boar, and you’ll oft see eagles, storks and vultures gliding overhead, or flocks of cranes as they migrate north and south in November and February. To keep the cockles nice and cool during summer, guests have free use of the half Olympic-sized public outdoor pool and neighbouring kids’ pool within the site’s grounds, and activities during the day include free swimming lessons and aqua gym sessions. In the evenings, settle down to watch one of the site’s regular flamenco concerts, relax with a cold beer or regional wine, and have tapas or home-cooked regional dishes at the restaurant or terrace. Off site, it’s a 10-minute stroll into Navas de Estena for several watering holes and little eateries.

From the manager: What!!??? We were waiting for you and you didn't call us to say you had arrived. From late December to early February our bar restaurant is closed and so the main gate at the entrance remains closed, but lodging is always available and we knew you'd booked a one-night stay. The gate has a sign saying "For accommodation please call our phone number....." and you failed to do so. We had the lights on and everything ready for you and you did not show up.

Local attractions

This setting is well sorted for scenery around the Cabañeros National Park, as well as scenic walking, cycling and driving routes. If you’re here as summer fades into autumn, you’re likely to catch a glimpse of local deer butting horns during rutting season, and there are plenty of feathered specimens to watch out for too, such as cranes, Iberian imperial eagles, and one of the world’s largest colonies of black storks. Budding paleontologists and geologists will find plenty to keep them occupied, as the surrounding mountains are the oldest in Spain and thus the area has a plentiful supply of fossils and rock formations. At night there’s stargazing to be had: the dark skies of Navas de Estena are well known among the astronomy community as being a spectacular place to observe the cosmos.
