In need of some nature, and hopefully some hiking, too? Camping Las Cabañas will put you on the right track. This rural site is in the mining region of Aragon, a couple of kilometres from Martín del Río in the Aragonese mountains. It's surrounded by golden opportunities for hiking, climbing and other adventure activities in the nearby mountains, and you'd also be smart to use it as a base for visiting archaeological sites, UNESCO-listed architecture and remote landscapes of the Teruel province. The skies of Teruel are often star-filled (conditions obliging), so stargazing could be in your future, too. You – or more likely, your mini cowboys and cowgirls – could imagine they're fearless palaeontologists (or if they're really teeny/imaginative, actual dinosaurs), as this region has been known for years as a productive area for dinosaur fossil hunters: see some of their finds in the Galve Palaeontology Museum, 40 minutes' drive away, or head to the Dinópolis theme park, an hour and a quarter away, for models, rides and skeletons. Back at the homestead, there's a restaurant (open during high season only) serving tapas and full meals, and communal barbecues where you can cook up your own grub. To work up an appetite, challenge the kids to a climb up the Cabañas climbing tower (loser washes up), or have a hike around the roomy grounds and among the trees of this spacious pine forest site. Other facilities include a games room and a playground.

Disliked If I could give this a zero score I would.
We arrived at 4.50pm only to find a note on the door of reception stating it would be open again at 5pm. This despite the booking confirmation form which stated that it would be open from 12.30pm to 8.30pm. We waited till just after 5 when we rang the phone number on pitchup. +34662002780. This was unobtainable. I found another number on the note on the door and rang that. Only to speak with a Spanish lady who clearly didn't understand me and I struggle to understand her. Eventually I was told to wait at reception. After waiting for over half an hour I received a text stating that "voy en 20 minutos". I'm afraid that's unacceptable. If this was the service before we'd even booked in we were concerned as to what the rest of the stay would have been like so at 5.44pm I replied stating we had left and to cancel the booking.

Liked El entorno en medio del pinar es excepcional. Las instalaciones están fenomenal. Los bungalows con cocinas muy equipadas y muy comodos con un estupendo porche con mesa y sillas. Y la atención estupenda. Muy amables y atentos. Nos recomendaron un montón de actividades para hacer por la zona a las que hicimos todo el caso que pudimos: ir al spa de Segura de Baños, nacimiento del rio Pitarque, pasarelas de Aliaga y Valloré…. Para repetir.

Campingmitarbeiter sehr freundlich.

Disliked Keiner spricht etwas anderes als spanisch (wurde aber anders ausgelobt!).
Minimarkt und Kids-Club stehen nur auf dem Plan, gibt es aber nicht. Restaurant Mo und Di geschlossen (wir waren Dienstag bis Mittwoch dort)
Fahrradwege praktisch nicht
vorhanden.
Bäume haben zum Teil gefährlich niedrige Äste.

Stride off into the site's surrounds on the nearby hiking trails, or go the whole hog and dangle around the via ferrata climbing routes from Huesa del Común, half an hour's drive to the north. You'll also need to set off for a lengthy explore of famed Albarracín, the ancient town lauded by many as the most beautiful in the entire country, as it looks like it's been pretty much unchanged since medieval times. If you desire to dig into the dinosaur history of the region, the splendid Galve Paleontológico Museo or Galve Palaeontology Museum is about 25 minutes' drive away, covering critters like Aragosaurus, Galveosaurus and Gideonmantellia that roamed these parts 150 to 200 million years ago. Dino fans will also want to take the several routes of the Parque Paleontológico de Galve to see dinosaur replicas and real-scale dig reconstructions; marvel at the bones of the huge sauropod dinosaur at Dinópolis Legendark, and spend as much time as possible at spectacular Dinópolis Teruel, the main park of the region with one of the biggest – and rarest – collection of dinosaur remains in the world.
