Yes, it's a castle. A real-life castle in Andalusia. And you get to park your caravan or motorhome in the grounds – pretty nice, eh? Castillo Al Málaga is in the hills of the Limonar district, about four miles from the centre of Málaga. The elegant building dates back to the 1950s, when Jose Antonio Vasquez purchased the land and set about building a fabulous home that would entice his future wife away from city life. (Yes, it worked… well, you would, wouldn't you?) These days, the place is run as an events venue, but part of the estate has been given over to the touring site, allowing guests to share in the peaceful atmosphere and the gorgeous views over the city towards the Mediterranean Sea. Pitches are nicely sized and family friendly, with plenty of space for awnings, bikes and any other bits you may have brought along. Guests here have access to all the essential amenities including toilets, hot showers, a launderette and a wifi service, along with a sociable barbecue area (although please note barbecues may be banned for safety reasons in very hot or dry weather). Although certain parts of the estate are reserved for main-venue guests, you’ll be able to wander about a little bit on site – handy if you've got a dog that needs to stretch their paws.

  • A cable measuring at least 2 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

  • Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.
  • Units longer than 8 metres are not allowed.

From the manager: Hello. Thank you for your comments. You are correct. We do not have pitches large enough to accommodate and 8.5 meter motorhome with a 4 meter trailer. Our total maximum is 9 meters. The entry road is gravel and on a 12% inclination. While the road is well-maintained, if you are not a confident driver, we don't advise booking .

Liked Lovely reception by Dani. Nice being up in the hills of Malaga. The site is lovely, access is ok , but just drive carefully and slowly. Overall great place , and only an hours walk to the Castillo then 15 minutes to the bottom of the Alcazar and main access to the centre . Taxi back €7-8 euros , saves the uphill walk and worth it .

Liked Location was good as only a 35 to 40 min walk into Malaga.
On site staff very polite and worked hard keeping the 2 toilets and 2 showers as clean as possible, quite a challenge for them given the amount of people on site.

Disliked Infrastructure of site could barely cope with amount of vehicles allowed in. Electricity from sites solar panels not enough for the demand and constantly tripped .
No proper hiking/dog walking direct from site and no views over Malaga unless you have a drone . Price too high for what was on offer. Far too many vans and motorhomes crammed onto site.

From the manager: HI Rob. We are pleased you enjoyed your stay and we notice that you were with us at a very busy time. Usually during the week we are much more calm, but weekends can get busy depending on the time of year! Our pitches are varying in size and are allocated by the dimensions of your vehicle. We don't allow more vehicles than pitches available and if you don't like your allocated pitch we are happy to move you as soon as one becomes available. But with only 25 pitches, we book up fast! We are located just at the entrance of "Montes de Malaga' so plenty of hiking in the area! And we even have a dog park on site!

From the manager: Hello Friedrich! Sorry we weren't your cup of tea :( Although, based on your limited comments, I do have to disagree. We are all very pleasant and welcoming here. We are a natural site, modern facilities, stunning views, and friendly faces. And let's not forget the only site in Malaga City (just 3.5 km's to the city center) and a bus service nearby. We do understand that we can't please everybody, but we certainly try to! And if you don't like us, no worries. We are happy to refund and you can be on your way!

Liked Very friendly and very helpful staff lovely campsite clean toilets and showers easy to navigate. The owner even helped me find a mechanic as I didn’t speak Spanish. Great location with sea views easy reach of Malaga city highly recommend to stay here.

Liked Breathtaking scenery. Facilities were kept spotless by the on site staff. This is a site that is improving on a regular basis. If you compare google images you can see new facilities invested on the site. The staff are great and give you as much help as you could want. The use of a on site contact number means most problems are dealt with swiftly. Quiet site at night. The other reviews mention barking dogs but hey it Spain.🤷🏻‍♂️.Bakery goods can be ordered on site.

The walk into Malaga is not for the faint hearted. It’s 2-3 miles downhill on the way out. We don’t mind walking so it’s ok for us.

New bathrooms and showers were installed earlier this month. Our aim is to to have a site where it's impossible to complain but obviously being a new site last year, we had a a lot to do!

Liked Had a relaxed vibe, facilities were basic but clean, wee social area too. Danny and "boss" were always around for help and advice.

Disliked Steep hill was tricky to get back up but "boss" towed us up, so all good.

Liked De locatie. De ontvangst en begeleiding. Alles was er aanwezig om het verblijf aangenaam te maken, en dat niet ver gelegen van de stad of kust Malaga.

Disliked Bij aankomst ‘s avonds - donker - was de weg erheen moeilijk te vinden. Wat verwarrend. Misschien meer verwijzingpanelen.

Local attractions

Málaga city centre (15 minutes' drive) is likely to be your main focus of attention – it’s a lovely city with a good number of historic attractions and museums as well as some nice beaches. The Moorish Alcazaba, Roman amphitheatre and Gibralfaro Castle are good places for a hit of history, with the Centre Pompidou Malaga and Picasso Museum on hand for your art fix. There are also, of course, lots of great places to grab a drink and some tapas. For a change from the city, head up into the hills of the Montes de Malaga Natural Park, just behind the castle. Well-marked bike/hiking trails start just a few minutes' drive away, and daredevils can hit downhill trails at BikePark Málaga (10 minutes) too. For a spectacular sunset view, head to places like Mirador de la Unidad (10 minutes) or Mirador Del Cochino (20 minutes). Elsewhere along the coast, you may like to sign up for scuba diving, snorkelling and canyoning outings, hit the beach in Benajarafe (20 minutes) or go underground at the Nerja caves (40 minutes).
