  • Costa del Sol glamping tents across the road from the beach
  • Torre del Mar 10 minutes' drive; half an hour to Málaga and airport
  • Swimming pool, playground, mini market and restaurant on site
A camping holiday right by the beach is an excellent thing – but could a glamping holiday right by the beach be just that little bit better? After all, that means you’ll be able to enjoy all the fresh air and freedom of a tent holiday but without having to bring along or set up any of your kit. If that sounds like an appealing prospect, take a look at the glamping options at Kampaoh Benajarafe, located within a Costa del Sol campsite that’s literally just across the road from the beach. That means you’ll be able to wander across to the sea whenever you feel like it, perhaps taking a dip in the sea, spending the day fishing or taking a table at the restaurant for a meal with a view. Back on the main site, a good collection of leisure facilities have been provided for guests, including a landscaped outdoor pool (open all season), a playground and a library/games room for some quiet indoor time. A mini market, launderette and bathrooms with toilets and hot showers ensure the essentials are all taken care of as well. You’ll have access to a barbecue/picnic area for your meals, and there’s a fridge in your tent to store your food and drinks. With sea views on one side and a backdrop of the Sierra de Almijara on the other, this spot may feel like a peaceful retreat well away from all urban life – but in fact it’s very well connected (both by road and public transport), so you can get to Torre del Mar with a 10-minute drive or to Málaga and its airport in around half an hour.

Local attractions

A trip to Torre del Mar (10 minutes’ drive) may include a stroll along the promenade, some family-friendly fun at Aquavelis waterpark and/or a bit more beach time. And if that doesn’t satisfy your thirst for beaches, well, there are plenty more along this stretch of coast – perhaps Benejarafe (five minutes), Benagalbón (15 minutes) or Nerja (25 minutes). Also along the coast is the city of Málaga (half an hour), where you can visit the ancient Alcazaba, Roman theatre and botanic gardens before sailing off on a sunset cruise. Arty types may like to include the Picasso Museum and Centre Pompidou Malaga on their schedule too. Turning inland, the town of Vélez-Málaga (15 minutes) is worth a visit, to see the fortress, old city walls and convents buildings. If you’re more into natural landscapes, there are plenty of trails in the Montes de Málaga Natural Park, about 20 minutes/ half an hour away.
