  • Family glamping 10 minutes’ drive from Doñana National Park
  • In El Rocío, 20 minutes’ drive from Matalascañas’ beachfront promenade
  • Pool, restaurant, playground, sports courts, shop and coffee bar
A family (or couple’s) camping holiday in the gorgeous Andalusia countryside – and you don’t have to lift a finger to get set up? Take a look at the glamping tents at Kampaoh El Rocío, where the outdoor accommodation is all set up and waiting for guests to arrive (beds made up, towels provided and cool box awaiting for your drinks). As the name suggests, this glamping site is on the edge of the village of El Rocío, one of Spain’s most important pilgrimage sites and a lovely well-preserved traditional village to spend some time in. It’s also the starting point for tours of the nearby Doñana National Park, and you can spend days touring Huelva or Seville, or hit the beach in Matalascañas (20 minutes’ drive away). All this means you may well be out and about quite a lot, so it’s good to know that life on site has been designed with relaxation time in mind. For starters there’s a swimming pool on site, fenced off for safety and with loungers and parasols on the surrounding sun terrace. A playground and sports court give kids the chance for a proper run around, and you can sort meals or drinks at the restaurant or coffee bar. There’s also a mini market on site for your picnic items, snacks and other bits.

Local attractions

Start with a stroll around El Rocío, taking in the whitewashed buildings and stopping by at some of the important religious sites like the Santuario de Nuestra Señora del Rocío (about 20 minutes’ walk from the site). Various places around town offer horse-drawn carriage rides or horse riding expeditions to take you out into the countryside a little bit. A trip into the Doñana National Park should be on your schedule too – it’s one of the country’s most important nature reserves and made up of wetlands, pine forests and dunes. You can tour under your own steam (drop in at the visitor centre in the restored Palace Acebrón, 15 minutes’ drive away, for info) or join guided wildlife-spotting tours from the town. For beach days, you might like to head to Matalascañas (20 minutes’ drive), which has a sandy beach with various activities like camel rides and an inflatable aqua park, or seek out one of the quieter stretches nearby such as Cuesta Maneli beach (25 minutes). City days take your fancy? It will take about 40 minutes to drive to Huelva or an hour to Seville.
