- Spectacular natural setting in an old traditional part of Andalusia
- Surrounded by a 12th/13th century Moorish fortress
- A couple of hundred metres from a lakeside beach
What a location this is (you might get a bit of a hint from part of the site name). Camping Rural La Cabañuela is in an excellent Andalusian setting, in the small village of Freila in the Altiplano region of Granada, near the Sierra de Baza Nature Park, and surrounded by the aged remains of Moorish fortress walls: if you want a peaceful, cultural and scenic spot from which to explore the Negratin surroundings, you'll surely be sorted here.
More? The village has its own lakeside beach that's set only a couple of hundred metres from the campsite, and is the same distance from the dam of Negratin for fishing, swimming and a local restaurant for loved-up evening meals… Baza is about 15 minutes away and Guadix within 30 minutes.
La Cabañuela has a bar, open in the summer months for tipples and coffees, and an outdoor pool open in high season.

What a cracking location this is, filled with scenic landscapes, handsome traditional villages, nature, history, and heaps of options for hiking, fishing, boating, canoeing and swimming in and around the Negratin dam and the Sierra de Baza Nature Park.
Nearby Negratin Reservoir is one of the biggest freshwater lakes in all of Andalusia and is, we say, an absolute must for the sight of such a watery setting and its bankside cliffs among an arid landscape. Its warm spring pool at Los Baños de Zujar is one of the lake's most visited attractions: if you sink into the waters and views here you'll see why (and do have a bite and a drink at the restaurant afterwards for more spectacular scenery).
Camping Rural La Cabañuela's local village is Freila, the smallest in the Altiplano region and a place to see properly old and traditional Andalusia among its white cottages, cave houses and twelfth and thirteenth century Moorish fortress.
Climb up to the Maruq Tower for views that'll make your jaw drop, across the natural surroundings around the village, the pine forest around the tower, and the red rocks stretching out below: yes, one must pretend here that one has time travelled back quite a few centuries...
