  • Mountainous site in stunning scenery with Bushman art on the premises
  • A 40-minute drive to Vanrhynsdorp; scenic hikes straight from the site
  • Swimming pool, garden, coffee shop, fishing and braai facilities
Have a scenic stay on top of a mountain pass in the Western Cape at Gifberg Holiday Farm… This hiking hotspot has ancient Bushman art on the premises and trekking trails starting off right from the grounds. Head on paths passing by wildflowers, natural pools for swimming, a watercourse akin to a smaller version of Namibia’s famed Fish River Canyon and intriguing rock formations; the park’s staff have got the goods on where to stroll whether you fancy the hourlong two-kilometre Potholes Walk or the trickier nine-kilometre Gifboom Trail. All tuckered out after a trek? This peaceful resort makes a grand getaway place for peaceful stays in a wildlife-rich part of South Africa thanks to its swish amenities – think a pool filled with clear, filtered water and surrounded by a lawn with trees for shade as well as pretty flowerbeds. It also has a big communal hall with a central braai area for grilling up grub and an on-site coffee shop that serves freshly ground java out in the fresh country air with spectacular views to accompany your morning cuppa. Hyped up to explore the vistas you’ve been lusting over? Have a go at a 4x4 drive around the rugged scenery – check in with staff about routes and safety – or go fishing down by the nearby Doring river (which is also a stellar place for a splash about). Gifberg Holiday Farm has flushing toilets, hot showers and washing-up facilities, plus the town of Vanrhynsdorp is 40 minutes’ drive away if you’re needing provisions. There’s no electricity on the pitching stands, so it’s best to bring a torch with you.
