  • Safe and secure site 800 metres from award-winning south coast beaches

  • Pool, gardens, playground, trampoline, TV room, tuck shop and braais
A safe, secure and scenic South African site... a few minutes' drive from award-winning beaches .. and in a peaceful setting where you can listen to the sea as you fire up a braai for supper and cold drinks... sound good? Pumlani Caravan Park in the KwaZulu-Natal province is your place. It's only 800 metres from here to the spectacular sands and clear waters of the beach at Margate (yes, named after the Kent coastal town). Margate's beaches are top spots for surfing and snorkelling; around the water, anglers can cast off from the rocks or the new pier, and restaurants and pubs aplenty are in town. You'll also be close to deep sea fishing and diving at Shelly beach, 10 minutes' drive away. Pumlani is a quiet site with mature gardens and plenty of feathered visitors. Its pitching area are demarcated with amenity blocks so that guests have quick access to the essentials; there are built-in braai facilities, a washing-up area and a secure electric fence all around the park. Kids and grownups are well catered for too: the park has an outdoor pool, a playground, a TV room, a swingball area, a trampoline, and – essential – a tuck shop for snacks. A supermarket is 500 metres away, Hibuscus Mall is five minutes' drive away and Southcoast Mall is within 10.

Local attractions

Pumlani is between Margate and Uvongo, on the south coast of the KwaZulu-Natal province and 10 minutes' drive from Shelly beach. You'll likely want to spend the first part of your hols around the sands and waters of all three; after that, there's a bird park with paintball centre at Uvongo, the Pure Venom Reptile Park at Shelly, and the Riverbend Crocodile Farm 10 minutes south of Margate. Away from the coast, it's about 50 minutes' drive to the spectacular Oribi Gorge Nature Reserve, 21 kilometres inland of Port Shepstone. There are nature trails to follow around its 24-kilometre length, zipwires to zip along, abseiling to tackle and whitewater rafting along the Umzimkhulu River to plunge into. The very brave can also take the Wild Gorge Swing, a 165-metre jump off the edge of Lehr's waterfall: this is the highest swing in the world, so well worth a go if only for boasting rights. Totter along after that to Port Edward, where you can raise your heart rate (again) at the Wild Coast Sun casino, half an hour from the park.
