Small pitch for two people among the vines

Stay among the grapevines – and indulge in a tipple or two – at the eco-friendly Saksida Holiday Park in the western Slovenian village of Zalošče. This site near the country’s border with Italy is on a vineyard in a foliage-filled part of the Vipava Valley, for hols making the most of the typically mild, sunny microclimate. As well as – fingers crossed – soaking up the rays by the swimming pool, a trip to this spot will have you experiencing everyday life at a winery, trying traditional foods from the Primorska region in the restaurant, and sipping on an array of fruity reds and whites in the tasting room. A spacious covered picnic area is also set up on the grounds for eating and drinking outdoors. When you’re not quaffing vino, hike and cycle (bikes are for rent at the park) through the site’s orchards or fish in the Vipava River, which flows through the village. Dips can also be had here and at Lake Vogrsko (half an hour’s drive) in the warmer months; for adrenaline-fuelled activities, the Vipava Valley is a hub for paragliding and rock climbing. If you’d rather stay firmly on solid ground, wander to other wineries nearby or venture a bit further to Trieste (50 minutes) in Italy or the Slovenian capital Ljubljana (an hour and 10 minutes). Whether you plan to stick close to home or explore pastures new, this site is a top base. It has facilities like a fitness room, wifi and electrical hookups, and the nearest shop is around a kilometre away.

Liked: Beautiful area and dog walks in lovely settings

Disliked: Expensive for not more than anywhere else, can’t get anything (other than a small snack) in restaurant as it’s all about the taster evening ( although nice, not worth the expense) cleaner cleaning showers at peak times and the shower staying on literally 2 seconds before you have to press again

Liked: La bellezza del posto, camping tranquillo e immerso nelle vigne. Tutto estremamente pulito e curato, area comune ben fornita e piazzole ben delimitate. La posizione è ottima per raggiungere tanti posti d'interesse nei dintorni come Lipica, Postumia o Predjama.

Liked: The swimming pool was nice but small, the terraced area looked nice as wells although we didn’t visit.
Our van broke down and they did provide us with jump leads which was very helpful and offered a coffee

Disliked: This site just didn’t do it for us, no shade at all in 34 degree heat on the pitches. A cockerel next to the motorhome pitches starts at around 4am.
The showers and toilets were very hot inside, there was mould around the shower cubicle and generally felt unclean.
Be warned if you use the pool there were lots and lots of honey bees which land on the floor and a few people were stung. Loads of mosquitos also even with spray and bands we were all bitten a lot.
Perhaps in cooler weather this site would be better but for us just not the one. The staff were all very friendly though.
It was the most expensive campsite we stayed in during the month we were away and I felt the focus was more on selling wine and the restaurant than providing a good camping experience.

Liked: Sehr gepflegter schöner Campingplatz mit einem kleinen Pool. Personal war sehr freundlich.

Disliked: Wenig Schatten, kann sehr heiß werden.
Frühstücksbuffet wurde als viel angepriesen. Es war Marmelade, Honig, Äpfel und Orangen in einer Schüssel, Brot, eine Sorte Käse und zwei Sorten Wurst und Joghurt aus der Flasche inkl. Müsli und Co, Eier und ein paar Getränke (Kaffee und Saft). Für 16 Euro pro Person war mir das ehrlich gesagt zu wenig Auswahl.

Local attractions

Days can be as slow or as fast-paced as you like during a hol here. Go boating and paddleboarding on the Vipava river right from Zalošče (10 minutes’ walk) or pick up the pace by rushing down the rapids while rafting on the Soča (25 minutes’ drive). Still trying to increase your heart rate? Zoom over the Soča Fun Park for ziplining (25 minutes), then dial things down with meanders around the Kostanjevica Monastery (20 minutes), a fab Franciscan complex set in lush countryside. Speaking of gorgeous greenery, have a gander at more of this during wanders through the Trnovo Forest Plateau or challenge yourself to a hike on the uphill trails of Mount Nanos (both 50 minutes). Cap off local explores by heading to the Military Memorial Redipuglia (35 minutes) over the border, an enormous memorial paying tribute to the Italian soldiers killed during World War I.

Admission

All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Units will be allocated on arrival.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 7 day(s) of arrival.

Dogs

Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
