Stay among the grapevines – and indulge in a tipple or two – at the eco-friendly Saksida Holiday Park in the eastern Slovenian village of Zalošče. This site near the country’s border with Italy is on a vineyard in a foliage-filled part of the Vipava Valley, for hols making the most of the typically mild, sunny microclimate.
As well as – fingers crossed – soaking up the rays by the swimming pool, a trip to this spot will have you experiencing everyday life at a winery, trying traditional foods from the Primorska region in the restaurant, and sipping on an array of fruity reds and whites in the tasting room. A spacious covered picnic area is also set up on the grounds for eating and drinking outdoors.
When you’re not quaffing vino, hike and cycle (bikes are for rent at the park) through the site’s orchards or fish in the Vipava River, which flows through the village. Dips can also be had here and at Lake Vogrsko (half an hour’s drive) in the warmer months; for adrenaline-fuelled activities, the Vipava Valley is a hub for paragliding and rock climbing.
If you’d rather stay firmly on solid ground, wander to other wineries nearby or venture a bit further to Trieste (50 minutes) in Italy or the Slovenian capital Ljubljana (an hour and 10 minutes).
Whether you plan to stick close to home or explore pastures new, this site is a top base. It has facilities like a fitness room, wifi and electrical hookups, and the nearest shop is around a kilometre away.

Days can be as slow or as fast-paced as you like during a hol here. Go boating and paddleboarding on the Vipava river right from Zalošče (10 minutes’ walk) or pick up the pace by rushing down the rapids while rafting on the Soča (25 minutes’ drive).
Still trying to increase your heart rate? Zoom over the Soča Fun Park for ziplining (25 minutes), then dial things down with meanders around the Kostanjevica Monastery (20 minutes), a fab Franciscan complex set in lush countryside.
Speaking of gorgeous greenery, have a gander at more of this during wanders through the Trnovo Forest Plateau or challenge yourself to a hike on the uphill trails of Mount Nanos (both 50 minutes).
Cap off local explores by heading to the Military Memorial Redipuglia (35 minutes) over the border, an enormous memorial paying tribute to the Italian soldiers killed during World War I.

No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.
Refunds within the indicated cancellation period are only possible if the site is able to relet your unit/pitch.
Bookings cannot be amended within 7 day(s) of arrival.
If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancellations and for your property/injury whilst away.
