Lakeshore

General

  • Family site on Lake Bled within easy reach of Triglav National Park
  • Spectacular lakeside walk to Bled town and its 11th-century castle
  • Swimming, fishing and canoeing/kayaking on the lake all available

On arrival... first of course, your gaze is going to linger on that lake. For quite some time – it's utterly fab.

Then you should probably take the lakeside wander for a kilometre or so, then amble back to take a ride on a traditional pletna boat across the lake to Bled Island. Then climb the 99-step stone stairway up to the 17th-century church there to ring its wishing bell – to fervently beg your choice of deity that you can hide away at Camping Bled for another couple of weeks/months...?

This stunning Slovenian site is a quiet and family-friendly place, on the shores of Lake Bled at the foot of the Julian Alps in the Gorenjska region, within easy reach of Triglav National Park. Bled town and its 11th-century castle are about a kilometre away, reachable by foot or by bike via a trail that leads from the site and around the lakeshore; elsewhere around, there's fly fishing and rafting to try, the Iglica Falls to gape at and the Triglav National Park to explore – just ask the site's entertainment team for tips on good local tours and attractions.

The site restaurant (as tiptop as its setting) dishes up local dishes and takeaway food, and there's a well-stocked grocery shop to stock up on bits and pieces for the barbie. The park's baker delivers fresh bread by bicycle every morning before seven – you'll be up by then, natch, maxxing out all the hours possible to take in the outdoor pursuits around these spectacular surroundings.

Popular pleasant campsite on the shores on Lake Bled26/08/2019

  • Camping pod (hot tub, private bathroom amenities)

  • Liked:

Friendly staff, easy check in, well maintained wooden lodge cabin with private hot tub and wash facilities. Also the site of the cabins were above the main campsite so was much more peaceful. Liked the fact that the staff came around at 3pm to light the wooden stove for the hot tub and also included was delivery in the morning of a breakfast basket, which was enjoyed al fresco in the sun each day. Good supermarket and restaurant on site.

Great location right next to the lake and the walking and cycling tracks although a good map is required.

    Toilets very clean and modern.

Bread bikes are out every morning selling a mixture of local breads inc. pan au chocolate - 1/2 chocolate and 1/2 custard, coissants with & without apricot, danish pastries with coconut & poppyseeds, seeded breads, loaves, apple strudle.

Kids club has plenty on. Usually a family walk in the morning then 3 activities from 5pm inc trampolining, painting, water slide, big inflatable footballs, archery, disco, torchlight walk arourd lake, lanterns to sail on the lake, international camping games to name a few.

Theres a small mini market, restaurant and bar at the entrance. A little pricy but lovely food.

    Disliked:

The units were crammed in. We shared the space for our guy lines with next door. No 6m UK rule here. By the time we left after 2 weeks the numbers had reduced & it was really plesant with plenty of space. Personally avoid early/mid Aug.

It rains here and our pitch had turned to mud by the time we left. The ground sheets needed cleaning before putting them in the car.

The toilets were well managed through the busy period but when it quietened off they started running out of toilet rolls and hand towels on a regular basis.

Lots of facilities and activities for children

    Disliked:

Noisy and very busy. I wish I read all the reviews before I booked! Massive site, full of screaming toddlers, not to mention the midnight open air film presentation in the middle of the road!?!
3 mini busses with a large group of young people turned up and pitched their 10 tents behind us. For 2 of our 3 nights we didn't get to sleep till well after one in the morning and they left the sinks in the washing up area blocked with food leftovers.
I was expecting to pay a balance of €121 as per email from Pitchup, but was charged €156. The guy at reception tried his best to explain the discrepancy, but I still don't understand why I had to pay the extra €35.
Staff were friendly and helpful and the facilities clean.
Restaurant fairly priced, though food very average (pizza was good)
Don't rely on the on site grocery store for fresh supplies for cooking.
Small adequate stores within walking distance, if you don't mind a hike. Bring supplies with you!
Bled is a busy tourist trap, best enjoyed early in the morning when most people are still in bed and before the endless procession of cars start.
Unfortunately our stay at Camping Bled left us with a sour taste in the mouth and blighted an otherwise fantastic experience in a beautiful country

From the manager...

Location but also the close proximity to the Lake; friendliness of the staff; children’s play area; cleanliness of the site and the general friendly ambiance.

    Disliked:

Whilst being positioned near the front of the site was brilliant, the access to sinks/showers was a little more limited.... the 3 sinks available for washing were shared with those using the toilets which wasn’t ideal.

Very nice campsite, but pitches have sharp gravel09/07/2019

Very nice place, the lake is very picturesque, the water warm enough to swim. The camping place has nice clean toilets and a family bathroom to wash the little ones. The bread service is certainly a plus.

    Disliked:

Some if the pitches have grass, but must have gravel or grass growing on top of gravel. The gravel is very sharp. It is difficult to pitch the tent and our tent floor had several holes after staying there (and our knees too).

Local attractions

Among the many (many) options around here, you must (must) boat across the lake to Bled Island, where people have lived since prehistoric times – and jolly sensible of them too, as you'll no doubt agree when you clap eyes on the isle. The island's main building is the 17th-century church, where grooms traditionally carry brides up the 99 steps (cor) to ring the wishing bell in the tower beam.

Also within easy reach (seriously, you'll need at least a couple of weeks) are the hiking and biking trails of Triglav National Park or taking a walk through Vintgar Gorge, both within 10 minutes' drive, and day tripping out to towns around Lake Bled such as Radovljica (20 minutes) and Bohinj (25 minutes).

If your energy levels are up for the hike to Vintgar Gorge, you can get there in about a couple of hours from Bled; if not, book the shuttle bus from the tourist centre right beside the Bled bus station.
