It’s all about making people feel at home, say the owners of DS Camping, who go out of their way to create a friendly atmosphere where guests feel like part of one big family. And all are welcome at this small-scale rural site in Banjšice – families, groups, couples, solo travellers and dog owners alike. This quiet location in western Slovenia is about 20 minutes’ drive from Nova Gorica, and surrounded by fabulous views of the Alps. It’s a canny location, as you’ll easily be able to get down to the town for its attractions and amenities but also be in a place where you can take full advantage of the area’s numerous outdoor activities. In fact, many of those activities are arranged by the team here on site: open-air yoga sessions, wild foraging experiences, hikes and e-bike or ATV guided tours are among the options. And there’s particularly good news for those who like to explore on horseback, as owner Dejan has both a lifelong passion for horses and over a decade of experience with professional riding. He and his team are always happy to take guests out on rides through the surrounding countryside. Time to chill out on site? Take a stroll around to meet the resident goat and dog, let the kids clamber about at the playground and see if there’s anything that takes your fancy in the shared vegetable garden. Anything you do pick there can be used to create your meals at the barbecue area or the kitchen (which has most of the usual basic equipment provided).

Electric optional grass campervan, tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Mooie, kleinschalige camping op een prachtige locatie met een schitterend uitzicht. Het sanitair is redelijk recent vernieuwd, maar de afwerking is niet overal even netjes. Daarnaast zijn er twee keukens beschikbaar, beide onder een overkapping. Dat is erg prettig, vooral bij minder mooi weer.

Verder kun je gratis elektrische mountainbikes lenen (dus niet huren). Ook is het mogelijk om op aanvraag te gaan quadrijden of paardrijden. Daar hebben wij zelf geen gebruik van gemaakt, maar het is een leuke extra die de camping aanbiedt.

Local attractions

This is a fabulous rural location, and one you’ll certainly want to explore in some way or other – have a chat to the team on site for tips on hiking trails, cycle routes and particularly scenic spots to seek out, or to sign up for one of their activities (including things like horse riding, ATV drives and foraging outings). There are lots of lovely quiet trails and viewpoints to try out nearby, but you can also use this place as a base for some of the area’s big hitters, such as the Solkan Bridge (20 minutes’ drive), Soča Fun Park (25 minutes) and Tolmin Gorge (50 minutes). You can also dip into the area’s history with trips to the The State Border Museum in Goriška (25 minutes) and Rihemberk Castle (45 minutes). A slightly longer drive (around 50 minutes) will take you down to the coast, crossing over the border into Italy for some time around the beaches and fishing villages of the Adriatic coast.
