Quinta do Figo Verde is an eco-friendly farm site on the outskirts of the village of Vale in Portugal's Minho region, right on the border of Peneda-Gerês National Park.
The owners grow their own fruit and vegetables, and the resident chickens provide fresh eggs, all of which are shared with guests to cook with; a breakfast that includes eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice is also provided each morning.
Quinta do Figo Verde has composting toilets and solar panels that generate the site's electricity, as well as heat the water supply to two open-air showers. Wifi is available upon request, but please note, bandwidth is limited.
Guests are free to use the well-equipped outdoor kitchen (with charging points for phones and tablets) once breakfast has been served. The owners also light the resort's pizza oven once a week to provide guests with a feast of homemade pizza.

Route directions
There are good bus links from Arcos de Valdevez to the rest of Portugal. From Arcos to us by taxi costs around €10. There are three busses a day from Arcos to Vale and back.
From the airport there are 4 buses direct to Arcos each day offered by Barquense at the following times, 8:50am 10:50am, 2pm and 4:50pm, plus two extra ones on weekends at 9:40am and 3:30pm (please make sure to check these times yourself). There are also airport transfers to Braga offered by Getbus, and from Braga there are frequent busses to Arcos.

Local attractions
Next door to Quinta do Figo Verde is Peneda-Gerês National Park (Portugal’s only national park), where you'll find lots of walking and hiking trails through spectacular mountains and ancient villages. Horse riding and kayaking are available in the park, and there are also plenty of rivers and waterfalls dotted around – just ask the site owners for their tips on how to find them.
Take a 10-minute stroll down the road to the nearest local swimming spot, or travel a little further afield to the Vez river in Arcos de Valdevez (5km), or the Lima river in Ponte da Barca (9km). If you're into world-class surf, head to Portugal’s Atlantic coast, around 35 minutes' drive away.
Visit the secluded and peaceful sandy beaches of Viana do Castelo (40km), the historic cities of Braga (60km) and Guimaraes (77km), and Europe's biggest market, Barcelos, all within an hour's drive.
