  • Set in a pine woodland a 20-minute stroll from Nazaré
  • Four kilometres from the Norpark waterpark
  • Pool, tennis courts, common room and playground
Now, Nazaré's a pretty fine place for a Portuguese break…. The traditional Leiria fishing town is – rightly – one of the most popular seaside spots in all of Portugal, set on the spectacular Costa de Prata or Silver Coast, and home to a tiptop funicular railway linking its Praia and Sítio neighbourhoods. Beaches, natch, are topping here too, with long stretches of golden sand edging mighty surfing waves: the world record for surfing the biggest wave (a whopping 34 metres) was smashed here in 2011. A 20-minute walk from all this fine sandiness and surfing is Parque Orbitur Valado, a friendly family site set in a pine woodland. It's among a huge network of cycling and walking trails, a short drive from the Marinha Grande Glass Museum, and four kilometres from the Norpark waterpark. For days loafing around on site when you're not on the sands or the surf, the site has an outdoor pool, a play area, tennis courts, outdoor table tennis tables and a TV/common room, as well as wifi that covers most of the grounds. Dogs are welcome.

What customers say

This campsite is praised for its spacious, shaded pitches among pine trees and its proximity to Nazare. Visitors highlight the pleasant, helpful staff, many of whom speak French, and the consistently clean sanitary facilities. While the location is convenient for accessing the town and beaches, some reviews mention a significant walk. A recurring point of concern is the sandy terrain, which can be problematic for vehicles and tents, and the availability and condition of some facilities are noted as needing improvement. Manager replies indicate awareness and a commitment to addressing visitor feedback.

Electric gravel pitch

Liked Walkable to town and beach and beach for the reasonably energetic.
Great wooded site with the best camping showers I've used (no cutoff here)

Disliked Need to stay near the bottom if a quiet pitch required. (Traffic plus processing plant).
Grass pitches not flat.

Liked Peaceful and friendly

Disliked Awkward parking process. Sandy pitches a risky proposition for getting stuck. Power and water access haphazard.

Local attractions

Whether you're a sand fan or a surfer, spectacular Nazaré should be your first stop, for beach and board days, much seafood and many bars in the town centre, and seeing traditional Portuguese dress on many of the residents in the town. For full-on views, take the funicular railway up to Promontório do Sítio. Away from town, the glass museum at Marinha Grande two kilometres away takes a clear look at the history of glassmaking in the region, along with the chance to see the artisans at work. Another good old option is the Church of Nossa Senhora da Nazaré, on a hilltop overlooking Nazaré, and the scene of a popular and lively religious festival every September. Also take the 31-kilometre drive to province capital Leiria, for sights including a castle, cathedral and the Praça Francisco Rodrigues Lobo main square, or drive the 90 kilometres to Coimbra, the medieval city with famed library the Biblioteca Joanina. If you hanker after more sands and surf, the beaches of Vale Furado and São Pedro de Moel are 12 and 22 kilometres away.
