A space where you can relax among the orange groves, in a peaceful spot where your neighbours include the resident pigs, chickens and cats… if that sounds like the sort of thing you're after, load up your caravan and set off for a stay at Quinta Storchennest in the southern Algarve. This simple but friendly site is part of a family-run farm about five minutes' drive from Porches (a handy place for shops and restaurants) and 10 minutes or so from the closest of the gorgeous beaches that line this stretch of coast. Being slightly away from the main Algarve resorts means you should be in for a nicely peaceful experience on site, but you'll also be within easy reach of the area's attractions and activities – whether you're planning beach days, coast hikes, horse riding, watersports, tours of traditional villages… The pitches here are geared up for self-contained caravan guests – they have access to water and electrical supplies, along with a chemical disposal point and a modern amenities block with toilets and showers. Pitches are on a hardstanding surface and marked out for ease of use; they’re also spacious enough to allow room for your awning, gazebo and outdoor table. Dogs are welcome on site as long as they promise not to chase the animals that live here.

This is a quiet, rural campsite with a very friendly and helpful welcome from the hosts. Pitches are spacious and set amongst nature. New toilet and shower facilities are clean and functional, though stalls are awaiting completion. Some guests experienced issues with the electric supply (6amp) dropping occasionally, and noted ongoing site development and occasional horse-related smells. Overall, guests found it a recommendable stopover.

Liked De aanwezigheid van toilet en douche en zeker het vriendelijke ontvangst en de ruime camper plaatsen. Zijn iets om blij van te worden.

Disliked Dat de douche 1 ruimte is wat veel lijkt op een naturisten camping, waar ik geen bezwaar tegen heb alleen is het gebruik van deze ruimte niet zo handig voor mensen die de deur op slot willen hebben.
En omdat ik geen paarden liefhebber ben is de ruik van de paarden voor mij niet zo prettig.

Liked Wahnsinnig nette Gastgeberin, spricht gutes Deutsch, Campingplatz ist noch im Aufbau und dennoch ist alles funktionsfähig und nutzbar.

Disliked Nur ein kleiner Kritikpunkt, wohlgemerkt sehr subjektiv: keine Rasenplätze und eher staubig.

Liked Nice quiet site, pitch plenty big enough for our twin axle caravan & small awning.
Showers were lovely although they do need finishing off.
Only problem was the electric, it was 6amp which should have been manageable but it kept dropping lower or going of completely meaning that for approx 50% of the time our fridge was running on gas; bit annoying when we'd paid 5e per night for electric.

Local attractions

The Algarve area is synonymous with lovely beaches – and you’ll have plenty of those nearby to visit when you're staying here. Praia de Nossa Senhora da Rocha (10 minutes' drive) is your closest, and other options include Praia dos Salgados and Praia de Galé (both 20 minutes) or the more remote-feeling Praia de Marinha (15 minutes). This stretch of coast isn't all about the beach though – there are also some pretty incredible cliffs and caves to check out, the most famous being Benagil Cave. Boat trips leave from the little village of Benagil (15 minutes) or nearby Armação de Pêra (also 15 minutes), a bigger town that also has activity centres for kayak tours, canyoning trips, surf lessons and other watersports. The coast draws most of the attention around here, but there are plenty of treasures inland too – horse riding and golf are among the activities you could fill your time with, and there are several wineries to visit. Nearby, stop by in Porches to explore its ceramics and craft shops, or cool down with an afternoon swooshing down the waterslides at Aqualand Algarve (both five minutes).
