  • Small and tranquil eco-conscious glampsite that revels in nature
  • Quality and comfy yurts with private facilities for an on-safari feel
  • A great stop to sample the delights of the green centre of Portugal
O Homem Verde is a small glampsite set on spacious terraced land set in a valley on the edge of woodland. Our yurts have their own verandas complete with well equipped kitchen area for some al-fresco food and drink preparation, along with picnic tables and hammocks under shady fruit and nut trees. Our gardens are well maintained and peaceful and encourage a whole range of wonderful wildlife from dear and hedge-hogs to frogs and swallowtail butterflies and squirrels to birds of prey and hawk-moths, from hoopo birds to preying mantis, all offered refuge in an environment that strives to reach a harmonious balance ... Set on these terraces our yurts face southwards across the valley and down into the woodland below, giving good oportunities to see some passing wildlife! Each yurt´s private bathroom facilities are situated 10 metres or so away, and are charming low-impact wooden structures complete with eco-toilet and hot water and designed to carry on the safari ambience whilst giving minimum disturbance to the surrounding flora and fauna. A fun experience in themselves, you might even spot some wildlife while you take a shower!

Local attractions

We are well placed with easy access in the hills of the Serra do Lousa in the central region of Coimbra. Set in an area with many natural and cultural attractions within easy reach there is much to discover! Our area has many beautiful river beaches to enjoy and they often have cafes alongside for snacks as well as easy access zones for children. Very close to us the lovely Loucainha pool which also has great walking trails which will take you through woodland to the top of the serra, or downhill to the gorgeous Pedra de Ferida waterfall, a cascade some 16 metres high with a natural pool beneath in which you can bathe! The pretty village of Espinhal also offers a great opportunity for adults and children alike have adventure in the trees climbing with rope walks and slides with safety supervision. The town of Penela has great restaurants along with a castle to visit, a weekly market and an extensive adventure playground for children. Not far from Penela you can find the spectacular landscape of Buracas do Casmilo, open caves set within cliffs which have been used since ancient times for shelter and protection - a quite prehistoric experience! On the way to the Coimbra is the World Heritage site of Conimbriga which offers some of the best preserved Roman mosiacs around. Coimbra itself is a small and historic city boasting one of the oldest universities in Europe which is well worth a visit for its fantastic Harry Potter-esque library, as well as a fascinating subterranean Roman forum. A walk around the historic centre takes you through narrow lanes and open squares of cafes and centuries old churches as well as art galleries and bars where you can often catch a performance of Coimbran fado music.
